Bring back version 6

Recommended Posts

Dear Sirs,

Please bring back the version 6 of Evernote, because we have as much as 20K+ notes in Evernote and we're getting desperate. Version 10 is riddled with increasing number of software bugs and keyboard shortcuts, which get into way of working with Evernote, which we all know and loved for the last decade. I cannot keep up with the results of bugs and shortcuts, which get into our way of working. Increasingly this version is annoying and affects other software and other work, which everyone needs to complete. We're uninstalling version 10 as quickly as possible but we don't want and have no reason to install Evernote 10 on a separate machines just because it works like a virus.

We have now reached some sort of a boiling point whereas notes taken in version 6 are not compatible (not viewable) in version 10, which specifically affects notes containing PDF attachments. We feel like for a number of years this version failed to re-introduce the note and notebook sharing options which was the reason we've started with Evernote in the first place. On top of that we feel like we're forced to chose between version 6 and version 10, or resign from using Evernote altogether. Someone needs to do something quick and I hope this request is going to be escalated rather quickly, instead of getting "try to recreate broken note" first line support message, which by the way is pathethic and seems as aiming only at heating up frustration.

Your post is mistaken in several aspects:

EN v10 is based on the Electron framework, which is based on Chrome(ium). It is one of the best maintained platforms available, and for sure not even close to a virus.

You can change most global keyboard shortcuts settings, if they interfere with other apps. I could say „other apps interfere with EN, and where are their settings“ ?

If attachments are initially „missing“, the download is still ongoing. Check on the web client if in doubt.

Sharing is available, no issue. The only removed share is a full notebook to unknown recipients. There are 3rd party services to cover this, if needed.

In general from your post I think you never really used v10. You encountered an issue not working „as we are used to it“ and automatically believe it would not exist.

You will have no option to continue with v6 (or any other legacy version) soon. The software is deprecated (given up) since 3 years now. The devs who maintained these versions have left the company. There are warnings all over the clients. We (other users) expect the syncing of legacy with the server to stop - soon, no date yet.

If you use it professionally and want to stay with EN, I propose you hire an EN Expert close to you and fluent in your language (Polish ?), for the keyboard settings. It will kick start you into v10.

If you decide to leave EN, choose a service and look for support in their forum. We can help here with exporting, but from there you need other sources.

We've found a number of cases when a PDF file is perfectly readable in version 6.XX and appears as corrupted in 10.XX - cannot be opened. This is already a deal breaker and something that needs to be looked into. I can create a video to demonstrate both versions side by side and multiple affected documents, if needed. Any plans to fix this?

The current version behaves like a virus, as it interfering with key keyboard shortcuts for Polish locale. We cannot keep disabling keyboard shortcuts as they seem to be restored with every update and even more conflicting shortcuts are being added with each version. Any plans to fix this?

We strongly rely on publicly available notebooks, which seem missing in v10. Any plans to restore it?

It's no longer (currently) possible to share a notebook directly,  but a third-party service Postach.io will convert one or more notebooks into 'blog' pages and can be adapted to provide a serviceable website. such as this rather basic and badly-maintained offering.  https://cliffeactual.com

Add the tag 'published' to a note,  and it will appear online.

Haven't looked at the terms recently,  but I believe you can publish a small number of separate 'blogs' for free.  Subscribing adds features - such as passwords - and unlimited blogs.
