MatthewCFriend 0
If I place some pdf's into evernote, how many pages will evernote index if the pdfs are already searchable? Is there a max number? Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 12,075 Posted October 14, 2023 Level 5* Share Posted October 14, 2023 If your pages are searchable and therefore contain a plain text layer, all of it will be indexed. The only limits are on the amount of OCR conversion Evernote is prepared to do from the server, and they won't process a searchable PDF at all. Oh, and the note size limit, Evernote system limits Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 8,838 Posted October 14, 2023 Level 5 Share Posted October 14, 2023 OCR will run on pdfs with only a picture layer as well. I am not aware of a size limit - I have pretty large scanned pdfs, and they are searchable on all pages. There are limits to OCR, like handwriting in pdfs will never be OCRed - but it will be in picture files. The way how the OCR index is build means that additional pages about (most of the times) the same subject will put less and less stress on the OCR result. Words will repeat itself, which makes for less additional data as more pages are indexed. The OCR result of say a 100MB pdf will not be 100 times that of a 1 MB file, it will probably only be 5-10 times more. It’s only used for a search index, not for a full text layer. Link to comment
