How can individual Evernotes be retrieved from backups on Mac? Where are they?

Recommended Posts

I'm on Evernotes 10.58.8 on Mac OS 10.15.7. I want to find out where exactly the individual evernotes are stored offline on the Mac in case I ever need to retrieve from TimeMachine. (I don't have the free version (not worth for me to pay a hefty monthly fee) so I can only manually backup 100 Notes at a time apparently.) Please advise.

(Additionally, suggestions for note-taking apps that sync well between iPhone and Mac that aren't Mac Notes or Evernote welcome!)

You can export any full notebook, no matter which size.

The notes live in a combination of a database and files-in-folders in the local storage. You can’t retrieve an individual note directly from that source.

Note history is running for all notes, on all accounts, and creates a version history. Access is a subscriber feature.

In case you need it, you can always subscribe for a month, and use note history on notes that were created and edited under the Free plan.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems like a Note can only live in one Notebook at a time though, and it's cumbersome to have to backup each Notebook individually.

I'm seeking a way to have an easy-enough local backup of all my Notes, and I have more than 100.

The export file format does not contain the information about the notebook. It is just a heap of notes.

It always was the way to backup to do it by notebooks. Having one export file per notebook is the only way to keep this information.

A note MUST be in exactly ONE notebook at any time. „Loose“ notes are not allowed.

Better use tags to organize your notes, and only a few notebooks.
