Anyway to have the Helper always running?

Recommended Posts

So I have kind of ignored Evernote over the last year, updated a few notes here and there but not really creating many new ones or spending too much time in the app.

I’ve seen the feedback about the new app but just realized the new app lacks a HUGE feature the legacy app had and seems like i might just be missing something.

I use to be able to use the global hotkey trigger even when Evernote wasn’t to create a Quick Note. I know that was due to Evernote Helper running and

“Keep Evernote Helper running in the background when I quit Evernote”

It does not seem like that can be done which is the first time I can personally relate to the outrage with the update.

Please tell me there is something I am missing here, Of course, my year subscription was renewed last month so hopefully there’s a way to trigger a quick note without the app running.

Right now I have a workaround in keyboard maestro but it’s slow. (If Evernote isn’t running it opens the app, waits 2 seconds than triggers the hot key)

I don't know what version of EN you are using. I suspect is is the Mac desktop version but I may be wrong. I use the Windows desktop version which is 99% the same as the Mac desktop version. In Windows you need to have the elephant icon in the task bar even if you don't have the actual app open. Unless you actively quit the app the elephant icon remains there if you simply close it. You can then create a new note by right clicking the icon:

or by using the global keyboard shortcut (alt+ctrl+N on windows)

So if evernote is not running it still has to launch the app (dealthly slow) and than it triggers the menu bar sometimes but soemtims i have to hit the key again, so pretty much the same as my current workaround. Yes Mac Desktop

Thank you for the heads up on that though!

You can open the app right when starting to work, and close or minimize the app window. As long as on the dock there will be a „dot“ below the app symbol, it is still running, and the helper will show in the menu bar.

Don‘t worry, your Mac is build for multitasking - you can even try to put EN into the start objects to launch with your Mac.

If your launch is slow, it may be you run on an older Mac. Or your local database may be corrupted.

My EN app launches on my MacBook Pro within seconds, this is when it was not already running. If it was only in the background it is there in a blink.
