Find within note no longer jumps to the current, next, nor previous occurrence within a note. If I manually scroll through the note, I can see that each occurrence is highlighted correctly. However, Evernote doesn't automatically scroll/jump to the right spot anymore.

When I search inside of a note, the arrows at the bottom of the search box will move the highlighting to the next place where it found the string. All hits are highlighted in yellow, and the one currently selected is marked in blue.

You can jump back and forth, using the 2 arrow buttons.

Unfortunately, that's not working for me. I see the counter increment/decrement when I click the arrows, and I see the proper highlighting of the occurrence, but the note window doesn't scroll/jump to the occurrence within the text.

I can’t reproduce this problem. I use a note prepped for testing, and it contains the text „test“ 24 times. As plain text, in indented lists, bulleted, checklist, checkbox, in tables, in between are pictures and other stuff.

Search inside of the note produces the dialogue box shown above. When clicking on the arrows, the highlighting moves to the next hit. When the next hit is down the page, it starts scrolling.

It scrolls all the way down, and when it has highlighted #24, it jumps back to #1, and the page scrolls up to the beginning again.

If your EN behaves differently, contact support.

Please try this:

  1. Create a note and insert a table with 3 columns and 60 rows.
  2. Type "1" into the cell in column 1, row 1.
  3. Type "10" into the cell in column 1, row 10.
  4. Type "20" into the cell in column 1, row 20.
  5. Do likewise for the cells in column 1, row 30, 40, 50, and 60.
  6. Scroll all the way to the top, then find "60".
  7. Scroll all the way to the bottom, then find "1".

When I do step 6, the window doesn't scroll at all.

When I do step 7, the window scrolls up about one row each time I click the next or previous arrow.

You did not mention tables in your initial posts. Don’t need to try: Tables show a different scrolling behavior, sort of „jumpy“ because they scroll full table cells. It gets worse when the table extends beyond the screen margins. Sometimes it feels as if they got stuck.

The usual smooth scrolling happens with normal text - and there it works.

If you want to address this as a problem, I recommend a support ticket.

Sorry, I didn't know the problem is limited to tables because most of my notes contain tables along with normal text.

Evernote should implement the feature properly, like all web browsers do... I guess I'll make a feature request. Thank you!

Find in note doesn't show search results in tables anymore

I have the same problem as Wave, and for me it's a big problem which I hope Evernote will fix soon:

I use the "find in note" functionality in Evernote every day and usually to search for words in large tables. The "find in note" functionality used to work perfectly and stopped working some time ago.

It used to work like this, that when I open the "find in note" option in a note by typing "command + f", a search field opens where I can type the word I am looking for within the same note. Then, this word would be highlighted and it would scroll to the word. If the word is there several times, I could click on the arrow button and this way jump to the next word in the table.

What still works now is that the word I am searching for is still highlighted in the note but it doesn't show me where this word is anymore. I have to scroll and search for minutes where this highlighted word is. That's very annoying. Especially when I have to search for a word in a table on the phone. It used to work that I could find the words in tables within notes from both my Evernote app on my iPhone as well as from my Evernote app for my macbook pro. Now, both stopped working and I am spending a lot of time scrolling which makes it very difficult for me to use Evernote the way I need to use it.

Wave reported the problem on November 16th 2021. That is roughly the time when this functionality stopped working for me, too. I use a Macbook Pro.

Please fix this bug. It worked well for years and I got used to working this way and now it stopped working.

Thanks for the confirmation. I made a feature request, and I've just submitted a support ticket. I'll report back here if there are any new developments.

I also wish the app would go directly to the location of where the search word is rather than just going to the top of the note. It's not that you don't know which now it is,  you select the note that has the search term in it that you want to open. So you know which note it is. It used to jump right to the location of the word and that was great.

I think that's a different problem. If I understand you correctly, you're referring to search (ALT+CTRL+F). I agree that's something Evernote should change. However, I started this thread because I had a problem with find within note (CTRL+F), which has been fixed since roughly mid 2022. Perhaps you can start a new thread to draw attention to the search problem.
