Weird checkboxes in new version

I'm having trouble with my checkboxes. I use them A LOT. 

Here's what's happening at the moment. I have what I call a "Done" list. I would check things off my to-do list, then copy/paste them over to my Done list. This is what's happening now. The old Done list now has these green checkboxes. When I transfer in items from the to-do list now, they are checked off and scratched off. If I want the checkboxes to match, I have to individually re-create them. I'm in Catalina 10.15.7 / Evernote 10.1.7.

Evernote has done a terrible job communicating this change, but there are now two different variations: the old checkboxes (Test 1-3), and the new checklists (Test 4-6). Checklists are superior for this sort of use case, so I suggest you switch to using those. Create them by typing square brackets followed by a space ( [] ), the keyboard command ⇧ ⌘ C, or simply by selecting the checklist option from the toolbar:
