Guys, the new Android version is not an improvement. It has one major issue, one avaricious change, and a UI failure.

• Major issue: can no longer use shortcuts on Android. This greatly reduces Evernote's functionality because you might have 100's of organizing tags, notebooks, etc, but your top 3 as shortcuts. Without one, you have to use the big tree view - slows you down a lot.

• Avaricious issue: The web version is now a "device". Got to stop all those terrible people who use the web version to add devices or use evernote on their spare Linux box without the paid version, right? Gee whiz though, the app isn't THAT awesome. You could have put the effort into fixing lists and spellcheck. Well, here's what you lose: for 5 years when presenting, I've answered the inevitable question with, "oh, that? That's Evernote. You should try it!" I guess today was the last time THAT happens. Companies that cheap out on the free version don't get me as a paid customer, but you also don't get me promoting you anymore - I'm sure SOME of those I introduced signed up for the paid version.

• UI failure: I think the new version is made for a tablet, or at least a phone bigger than my - wait, my S9 Note is big! Well, it doesn't work well, anyhow; and squanders its screen real estate shamefully.

It's been real - but these are bad enough to make me start coding my own solution 🙄

1. I actually like the changes in UX. Dark mode is superb. Before it was just too much white space. Old Evernote version looked like some kind legacy JAVA project. Now it looks modern and inviting. I understand the benefit of leaving old interface, some products are famous for that such as Corel Draw but the old Evernote's interface needed a serious overhaul.

2. About the cost, its a commercial product and not Wikipedia. The benefits of Evernote are much greater than the cost. Evernote is not in the game of selling user's data so the free version is major benefit.

3. My own issue is partial support for RTL languages but Evernote never stated that it supports this feature. So in some cases I just write in English (its my third language, you probably guessed that with my grammatical errors).

4. The current speed of updates is really fast compared to the past.

5. Yep, some features are gone but I see that they coming back in new version. I guess some will never come back but hey its life.

In conclusion, Evernote good job.

The Android version 10 is, at best, a beta version closely related to the POS released for the desktop version (iOS & Windows). First, EN should have communicated the rollout and, second,  given us the opportunity to choose whether to install or not. I do not 'get' this fascination with 'dark mode' and that it is some sort of a programming breakthrough. Really,  too much white space? 

This app is not intuitive - have you tried to find the sync function yet? - . It slow to load and slow to respond to menu selections. And if you are worried about white space - it could use a bit more and not eat up the screen with oversized elements like the TITLE - which is headline size - and note formatting bar where the quick actions are now in a buried menu. 

I want the old version back until this one is fixed. Where can I download & install it?

The Android release post that is linked in this digest is a dead URL. The post was apparently removed. Is there a new link or was feedback simply too negative to leave it up? I'd love to read more about it, as I currently cannot sync any notes to my Android smartphone (Google Pixel 3).

Someone on another thread listed a 3rd party APK site to be able to re-install the previous Android version. I managed to get back to the June 2020 Android version and things are back to normal...

Thanks for this. I've managed to revert to v8 on my Android via APKMirror - apparently successfully.

How can I be sure that my phone won't surreptitiously "upgrade" Evernote again in the middle of the night? As far as I remember, v10 was installed without asking my leave.

I've discovered that auto-updating is controlled from within Google Play Store. I've set it to Don't auto-update and reinstalled v8.

(This post might be useful to other people who are as ignorant as me.)

I also learned that lesson. For whatever reason, I had to turn off ALL updating and now must manually update all other apps on my phone. But I would rather do that then lose time trying to adjust my work flow to match the new EN that does not offer many of the tools that I depend upon. 

Hope EN gets their act together soon! I haven't found a replacement yet!
