mbaltuch 0
I am running windows 10, 64 bit. I was notified of an update today, which I downloaded and attempted to run. It failed with the warning: (.\Bootstapper.cpp:916) 0x643:Fatal error during installation. Any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks,Mitch Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 11,667 Posted September 27, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted September 27, 2015 Hi. In previous versions of Windows, the fix was to go to 'C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\Evernote.msi' and execute it. If that fails, try uninstalling your current Evernote version manually and downloading / updating to the new version. Last resort, you might have to reinstall your current version to allow it to uninstall correctly, and then retry updating! mbaltuch 0
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, none of this works. Executing the .msi file gives me a fatal error. I then tried to uninstall the existing version of Evernote and I can't get it to uninstall. No error, or anything, but when I click uninstall, nothing happens. I am, at this point, good and stuck. Debber Does it 0
On another thread you are told to completely uninstall Evernote, and then install version Evernote 6.1.2.2292 as it is a complete install. It can be downloaded here: http://filehippo.com/download_evernote/68286/ Try it first, must delete previous versions. I still had trouble doing this, as I could not completely uninstall a previous version, so I downloaded a trial version of Revo Uninstaller: https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html You go after initial attempt to uninstall to advanced-scan and it will pull up all registry entries on Evernote, check them and it deletes them ALL. Now you can install this old complete version, and you are set. Link to comment
Bob4H 1
I had the same problem, had to uninstall. But Win10 would not allow me to. I can uninstall everything else, but to uninstall Evernote required Administrator privilege. After a bunch of digging, I found out how to be the Admin: Get to All Apps / Windows System ... Right-click "Command Prompt" and pick Admin ... Yes (now you're in a command prompt window.) Now click back to uninstall Evernote - works just fine. PS: I had also followed instructions to back up Activity Log and Notebooks, which is a good idea. But when I installed the update (in this case, 6.7.5), upon launch it repopulated everything automatically. Good job, Evernote team. Thanks. Link to comment
