Feature Request Places map

iOS 7 and EN for iOS 7

 

The map in Places should be capable of a full screen view.  As it is now, it is limited to the small version in the left panel.  For me, this makes it useless in the field, which is where Places is (was) a great tool.

You might like it. The app show the map in full screen along with a detail information about each place you visited. You can filter the places & notes by notebooks, tags, time and visible map ... with more to come.

IdeaPlaces is a great tool for visualizing your notes geographically. If this is important to you I highly recommend it.

 However, I believe it is currently only available for the iPhone and not the iPad.

Indeed the app was initially designed for the iPhone (to minimize scope) but the iPad optimized version is in the plans.

 

That being said, currently you can still install the iPhone version on an iPad and it will work.

Thanks for the link to the new app, and congratulations. I definitely will check it out. But I hope that this does not mean that EN has decided to abandon the ipad ios Places, which is pretty much a waste of space as currently built.

definitely way too early to come to any conclusions about "abandoning". Evernote has not made any substantial changes to the UI since the iOS 7 update. I am sure we will see refinements and changes as time goes on, but I suspect there are more "bug"-like changes that need to be chased down that are higher priority.

Thanks for the heads up. Creating map stuff in Atlas to use in Places would take some time though it would be well worth the effort someday, maybe. So for the foreseeable future I will defer that project. I am, without expectations, cheering for Places to become useful. If that happens, en will rock. I will stay tuned. Thanks for the feedback.

In regards to the Evernote places, the app I’m building has the ambition to allow you to view your Evernote account from the perspective of WHERE you create notes.

Evernote created a great SDK that allows third party developers to build great app on top on the Evernote platform.
Independent entrepreneurs like myself can reach the customers faster just because we don’t have to build a solution for all the platforms at the same time.
Third party developers can iterate faster and do very precise custom features for a smaller subset of the entire user base.

For these reason and many more Evernote wants developers to build app on top of their platform, it’s a win-win situation.
