(Archived) Evernote 5 for Mac duplicate notebooks

Idea

Just decided to try to upgrade to the new and improved evernote 5 for mac. Upgraded via the check for updates tab in Evernote. All my notebooks duplicated...AGAIN. C'mon guys you can do better than this, and please don't tell me it is isolated, etc. shall I delete and download a fresh version?

Hi. Sorry to hear that. Did you start a ticket? If so, please post the ticket number here so that staff can follow it, and for the benefit of other users, could you c/p the Evernote customer service advice (even, or especially, if it didn't work). Thanks!

Below are the response from technical support and my ticket #

I attempted the fix but find most, not all my notebooks duplicated. Very frustrated.

We apologize for the inconvenience, please log onto your account at

www.evernote.com and make sure your notebooks and content are fine in here.

If you have some important Local Only or unsynced notes, be sure to read the directions at the end of this email to safeguard your information. Otherwise please try the following:

Please try moving your Evernote database directory so that Evernote will regenerate a new local database by copying your notes back down from the service. To do this:

  • Quit Evernote from the elephant icon in the menu bar.
  • Note: If you are on Evernote version 3.3 or earlier, or have installed Evernote from the Evernote Website, or if you are on MacOS 10.6, please proceed as follows. Otherwise, move to step 3:
    1. In the finder, open the "Library" folder in your home directory. (This is in the directory with your name under "Users" , NOT under "Library" at the top level of your hard drive.) (Note: On MacOS 10.7 Lion or above, Click on "Go" and then Hold "Option". This allows you to select the hidden "Library" folder).

    2. Navigate to "Application Support/Evernote/accounts/Evernote/"
    3. Move the "" directory from that location to a different place (like the desktop)

    [*]If you are on Evernote 3.3 or later and running MacOS 10.7 AND you have installed Evernote from the Mac Appstore, please navigate to ~/Library/Containers/com.evernote.Evernote/Data/Library/Application Support/Evernote/account// . Move the "" directory to a different place.

    [*]Start Evernote, provide your username and password again if needed

    [*]This will synchronize all of your notes from the service and create a new local database.

*If you do have any Local Only notebooks, right-click the notebook name in the left-hand notebook pane and select "Export", then export the notebook to .enex format, exporting tags if desired. If you have some unsynchronized notes, you can go to the Note List view, sort by the "Sync" column, and export any notes that have a * in that column to .enex format before following the above instructions. Once those instructions are finished, you can then import the .enex files you created to restore these exported notes.

Got another response. This time, as follows:

Dear Valued Customer,

We believe that reinstalling the latest Mac version may address the issue that you reported. Please perform the following steps:


    1. Quit Evernote from the elephant icon in the Menu Bar

    1. Drag the Evernote application to the system Trash

<img alt="" />

  • Reboot your Mac
  • Download and install the latest version of the Mac client:
    http://www.evernote.com/about/download/get.php?file=EvernoteMac
    When you open the download, make sure to drag the Evernote icon into the Applications folder instead of running it from within the installer package.
    Eject the disk image and delete the installer file before you run Evernote.
