mac (Archived) Is Evernote For Mac Desktop Now Mac App Store Only?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I notice that there's a recent update for the Mac App Store version of Evernote, but I can't find any download link for a similar update for the non-Mac App Store version.

Is Evernote for Mac desktop now Mac App Store only?

Thanks.

Hi. Yes. They are moving in that direction. The update is not needed for the regular Mac version, so you are fine. There is a link posted somewhere in the forums to the non-app store version (no link to the download on the regular site). But, you can just set your current app to check for updates (in Preferences).

So there is no 3.3.1 non-MAS version? And I suppose therefore that at some point in the future I will have to move to the MAS version anyway..?

Yes. That is my understanding. However, the Mac store version in its current state (hobbled by apple's rules) is not very enticing to me. Hopefully, Apple will refine their policies, or Evernote will find workarounds before moving completely to the app store version.

The Mac store update only fixes issues with the Mac store version, so there is no need to update if you are running the direct download version.

Jack said the other day that they will have a direct download version for the foreseeable future.

Metrodon is correct. We will continue to have a direct download version.

3.3.1 is App Store only.

Foreseeable future.

A pithy, but powerful declaration.
