  1. I am getting a little frustrated with the Task feature being more apparent in the Evernote applications. Does anyone know if it's possible to hide the purple Task create-button button in the sidebar - or even better; disable the Task feature completely? 🤔
  2. I'd always spend my money on better tools rather than new clothes.. This is like the sweater you got for Christmas that you'd likely return 😂
  3. Thanks for this! Yes, it seems that is the sole purpose..sadly
  4. I think the most important question being asked here is; what exactly is Evernote trying to accomplish with this upcoming UI update? Effectiveness? New features/functions? Nothing really changed or added, but just for aesthetics? Did you do a mass user survey asking us what we would like to see improved/missing in the UI? Did you ask us to rate different design templates? Did I miss this somewhere or could you explain, @Federico Simionato ?☺️ Personally, I was hoping for: Speed improvement (I still find it to be sluggish - Windows Desktop user) Tab-functionality (crazy that Evernote does not support this) Option of focused search "pop-up" taking more real estate of the screen (in addition to having the current sidebar search functionality). This enlarged focus view could f.ex. offer the option of displaying text snippets from inside each note with keywords highlighted, etc. This would go hand-in-hand with the value Evernote provides as an archive/retrieve system - with its search engine being a competitor killer and newly added AI search functionality. Dear Evernote. Know your audience, improve your weaknesses, and build on your strengths..
  5. Same here. Continously getting error prompts when performing searches (both in notebooks and global) stating: "Permission lost, you can no longer access notebook". I'm using the latest desktop versions for windows version 10.59.5. Searching is my main function of Evernote, so this is a critical bug.
  6. Hey @Neil Maxfield all good, hope the same for you! Yes, this is expected and works all fine - even without filtering for PDFs. But as mentioned, it will not highlight search terms in the PDF. Although it taking another step, it seems like you can do another search inside the Evernote PDF viewer for iOS. Though, this is not the same story for the android application. This leaves me forced to open another application to do a simple search - making the whole process of "Get what you need when you need it" not so powerful..
  7. @PinkElephant Very sad to see the lack of platform consistency in the Evernote app..
  8. @PinkElephant I see no magnifying glass? only the open/share icon. I'm using the latest version of Evernote on my Android phone (google pixel 7). What device are you using? Are you sure you opened the PDF in the Evernote PDF viewer and not in another application? Are you sure? The "Find in note" function on my mobile app will not search PDF files. I tested on multiple notes with multiple PDFs. It gives me 0 hits even though the search terms live in multiple places within the PDF file.
  9. Something that has been bothering me.. When performing a search on the Desktop application; search words are highlighted in the PDF preview inside a note. However, in the Evernote mobile app; search words are not highlighted (there are no PDF previews). You would think, upon opening the PDF file inside the Evernote Mobile App, that you should be able to perform a search (you are not..) Even Apple Notes can do this? Is anyone else frustrated that the "Best Note and Archiving tool" on the market cannot do this? "Get what you need, when you need it with powerful, flexible search capabilities." Personally, I use Evernote for Capturing, Archiving, and Retrieval of information - and I feel these were the pillars of Evernote's birth and existence. Lately, it seems like Evernote has been trying to play catch up with other new players on the market, with all kinds of new productivity features (i.e. task and team features). Imo, when trying to be - All Things to All People - you will most likely lose. I hope Evernote will consider to simplify and re-focus its product towards its pillars of existence. Anyways, while I'm at it, I'm wishing for a better search overview in files/attachments (both mobile and desktop), faster note retrieval, improved app reliability/stability, and proper automated back-up (offline) functionality. I will finish off by saying that I am excited about Evernote's announcement of AI Search functionality being in the works. Am I alone in thinking this?
  10. Just an idea; why not prompt the user with some choices when hitting the AI Cleanup? i.e. 1) Overwrite 2) Create duplicate 3) Insert Cleanup version at the top of the note..
  11. Adds to the point 🙃 my spouse would have absolutely no idea what to do - and if she did, would she be comfortable in doing so?
  12. Thanks for sharing this option @agsteele This was the solution offered by a github user, using Homebrew or PIPX install files, and Python?
  13. @gazumped nono, I got that. My neighbor was biking her way to work every day, for 15 years. Still, wearing a helmet would have saved her life when she got hit by a car. You were using backupery, right? Why is that? My point here is that we like to be safe and maximize personal control over our creations/valuables. Evernote makes it possible to do, but not practical - as you said. IMO, this is not a niche want-feature, but a need for many Evernoters. A reason why many similar types of note-takers would opt for something like Obsidian. Currently in Evernote; adding another step to solve the issue (third-party solutions), will add more friction, pose another type of risk, and might be costly for both customers and the Evernote corp. ? So again, why not offer a similar simple protocol in Evernote? Can only see this type of feature (read: bulk notebook exports with options for automation) would build on the pillars of the Evernote culture, add more trust for the product/company, increase the value for Evernote customers, and attract new ones.
  14. Evernote has a history of being a secure and reliable place to store your notes and use for PKM. It baffles me that we have to opt for third-party solutions for something so important like this. For the price we pay, why would Evernote not offer similar simple backup protocols? (https://www.backupery.com/products/backupery-for-evernote/ and https://github.com/vzhd1701/evernote-backup) IMO, features like this would continue to set apart Evernote from its competitors; being a more secure place to store your notes. Also, giving another incentive as to why you would pay a higher price? @Federico Simionato I hope it's ok that I tag you here. Maybe other offline/backup solutions are in the pipeline?
  15. @agsteele @gazumped Which version are you using? I'm on 10.56.8 using Windows 11. I've been testing it a bit now. Follow the journey below. - I've installed the system file from Evernote's website "Evernote-10.56.8-win-ddl-ga-4069-8d752afa50-setup" - I have made no customization or moved any folders - When embedding a .pdf or .docx to a note a new directory is created locally on my device within C:\PC-NAME\OneDrive\Documents\Evernote - Here the file(s) will appear and sync immediately with my Onedrive Limitations: - When opening an embedded .docx or .pdf from Evernote it will create a new directory and duplicate of the file locally C:\PC-NAME\OneDrive\Documents\Evernote , Every time. - If making edits or embedding a .pdf or .docx to a note from my phone, this will create a new directory and create a new file or duplicate of the edited file on my desktop/backed-up device (only after opening the file from my desktop). - When opening a synced Evernote .docx or .pdf file directly from Windows File Explorer on my desktop (C:\PC-NAME\OneDrive\Documents\Evernote) and making edits to the file, this will indeed transfer to Evernote when opening the file from there (whether that be my phone or another device). However, make sure to have Evernote open and to only make edits to the latest created file since this would be the file that syncs with Evernote - not the old duplicates from previous directories. All syncs happen almost instantly - try to have a window with Evernote open on the side with the Note containing the file, and see how the window refreshes when saving the file from Windows File Explorer. Watch out, if you rename the file from Windows File Explorer; it will NOT sync up with Evernote. - If working in teams and opening up the same file from Evernote it could cause problems (however, if individuals are opening up the file directly from the shared Onedrive location, it will sync)
  16. @PinkElephant Thanks again for your assistance! In my case, the attachments of documents and PDFs are in fact stored as .docx and .pdf on my local drive C:\PC-NAME\OneDrive\Documents\Evernote - and yes, they are stored in a massive array of folders within that location 🙂 To me, this is important to know because this folder is synced with my Onedrive. Should I lose files in the Evernote cloud, access to my Evernote account - or, god forbid, Evernote shut down from one day to another - I would know my Notes and attachments can be found locally but also in my Onedrive cloud. Now, since I'm able to locate the embedded .docx and .pdf files on my local drive, I'm curious to find out where Evernote is storing all the Evernote Notes and my embedded images (and in what file format) on my local drive - for the above reason 🤓
  17. Thanks, both! If notes and images are encrypted in the location C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Evernote ; any ideas of which folders contains the Notes data and which ones contain the images? I have a feeling that images are not stored locally. Does anyone know?
  18. Thanks @gazumped They were installed there by default. In terms of search, I meant inside Evernote. Hmm, I'm seeing three Evernote folders: C:\PC-NAME\OneDrive\Documents\Evernote - In here I find locally stored Evernote .docx and .pdf C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote - System files, but no images or Evernote Notes (.png, .jpeg, .enex, or .html files) C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Evernote - Cached files, but no images or Evernote Notes (.png, .jpeg, .enex, or .html files) And yes, you could add a summary to your Gdrive files inside Evernote, however, that would be an extra step disturbing my workflow. After my testing, it seems to work well having them stored inside Evernote with the local file connected to Evernote synced with my Onedrive. Simply opening the file from Evernote, and making edits from Micr. Word or Acr. Reader - and saving them again all syncs up beautifully! Though, I have not tested this from a team's perspective (i.e. working on a synced Onedrive .docx multiple people at the same time). I can imagine that would create some problems? Thanks, I'll def look into ToC feature!
  19. Hi all, I'm new here. I’ve been testing out lots and lots of note apps over the last few days. Evernote came out #1 for me 🙂 A had a few questions, maybe you guys know.. I’m thinking about building a file cabinet (using a stack of notebooks) with each note containing 1 file/document. Then, when adding files to new personal or work notes, I will reference/backlink to that particular note. This is to optimize upload/storage, and to utilize backlinks in a meaningful way when creating my “second brain”. Also, Google Drive attachments are currently not included in Evernote search; so using Google Drive as the reference point would be stupid. Therefore, I looked for the location of the local Evernote database. I’m on Windows 11, and I found a part of my local database stored under C:\PC-NAME\OneDrive\Documents\Evernote\########. Here, there are only .docx files and PDFs. However, this is quite amazing since my Onedrive keeps them synced up. My questions: Where is the rest of the local Evernote database stored? The Notes and images? I’m guessing those would be dangerous to move or sync with Onedrive?
  20. @Anthony2023 It's coming - Just doing it better than what Notion is doing 😉 Check one of their latest blog posts - from Federico and the Evernote team. This is the section about introducing AI in Evernote: Artificial Intelligence (AI) AI is a hot topic right now—and understandably so, as it brings with it plenty of concerns as well as opportunities. Concerns not just in terms of privacy and security, but also because it can prompt a nasty tendency to innovate for the sake of innovating—adding flashy features that don’t actually help the user in any meaningful way. Rest assured that our AI features will be opt-in only, meaning your data won’t be processed by the AI model unless you explicitly direct Evernote to do so. And if you do decide to opt in, you’re still in control of your data, and we continue to keep your data safe, secure, and private by implementing the principles of privacy by design and by default. When handled wisely, AI also offers amazing opportunities. So the challenge we’ve been working on is to introduce AI to Evernote in a way that truly makes life easier for you. With these new features, we’re confident we’ve done just that! I’m excited to share some details about them with you now. AI Note Cleanup The first AI-based feature, which we’ll start rolling out in May, is AI Note Cleanup. Do you ever frantically take notes in an important meeting, then spend far too long having to tidy them up after it ends? AI Note Cleanup does the boring, time-consuming bit for you. Every user has one month of unrestricted access before the feature becomes subscriber-only. Personal take: I’ve been using a prototype of this feature to clean up some of my notes for a few weeks now, and I honestly don’t know how I ever managed without it. I suspect many of you are going to feel the same. AI Search The second AI-based feature is especially technically demanding. Its working title is AI Search. With it, you can ask questions in natural language directly to your Evernote app via text and receive an instant answer based on the content of your notes. Search is one of the features that’s most appreciated by Evernote users, so the possibility of improving it in a massive way is really exciting. But, as mentioned, there are privacy considerations at play, so we’re proceeding carefully and methodically. The team is hard at work developing it right now, and it will arrive in the latter half of the year. Source: https://evernote.com/blog/evernote-pricing-upcoming-features-update/amp/
