Understood. I don't remember when you attempted the switch from Legacy to v. 10, but I know that many people (again, not necessarily you) waited till pretty much the last minute. I waited a year or two, since v. 10 really was inadequate (to put it mildly) when it was first released. But then I had another year or so to begin learning new ways, rebuilding both work processes and muscle memory, everything that is, as you say, "true for any new system." V. 10 is a new system, and I'm not sure that Evernote (before and after Bending Spoons) emphasized that strongly enough. The habits and tricks we learned as we were first learning Evernote years ago couldn't be relied on, and it did require time to build up new ones; and if a particular workflow was hyper-dependent on specific features of v. 6, it was going to break.

My point is that, however it happened and however the responsibility should be distributed, quite a number of people found themselves jammed up with an "emergency," or at least "urgent," transition from Legacy to v. 10, and seem very willing to allow all the time and patience required to learn Obsidian, Upnote, Notion, or whatever, which they believe Evernote v. 10 should not have required of them. I'm probably wrong about some of this; I hope I'm being fair, but maybe not. But I think the snarky title of this thread kind of makes my point.

Honestly, I also find it strange that they have all this patience and good will with other software, which is very different from Evernote. I have the impression that people got too attached to Legacy by creating workflows that were too specific. I, for example, didn't go through that. When v10 was launched in 2020 I started using it almost immediately and had a very smooth transition. Legacy and v10 are different but the basics are still there: notes, notebooks, labels.

I have the same problem, the number of files at the top is probably ok (10840), but the actual files list only shows about 50, I can't scroll further through the other 10800 files

The same thing happens to me. I imagine it's because the functionality isn't 100% ready yet. In one of the posts on X (twitter) Federico said this: https://twitter.com/fedesimio/status/1780279923518644588

Respect to anyone who disagrees, but thought I should submit a positive against the overwhelming amount of bad press on here over recent months.

In the midst of a lot of criticism here, it's good to see someone who still realizes how good Evernote is. Congratulations!

However, I need a stable Evernote to be productive. Probably 90% of my usage is for productivity work and 10% usage is for archive/file storage. I'm sure if those numbers were flipped it might be a different story for me. The constant churn, bugs, and beta and A/B testing on users gives me a feeling of loss of control and unproductiveness and some of the recent changes just aren't for me. I feel like I'm on shaky ground and I keep wondering what is next? Maybe it works for their bottom line and they should do what is best for them, but I gotta do what is best for me too.

I am living proof of your argument because I am its complete opposite. 80% of my use of Evernote is for saving files and notes and 20% for work and productivity, so these changes affect me very little. Honestly, until today I haven't been able to really notice this change in spacing. 🤭

Nobody likes to pay more for anything and this is understandable.  On the other hand, when I see weekly updates and constant improvements it shows me that the company is investing in the product and is committed.

I totally agree with you. Just to illustrate, below are recent blog posts warning about new features and improvements. Look how much stuff:

Maybe it's easy to be satisfied with V10 when all you use it for is hoarding random notes on how to clean your underwear with vinegar.  But for those of us who have developed a highly-structured & detailed tool that we rely on regularly, it's a different story.

Many here like v10 and I am one of them. You don't need to belittle us just because you're angry about the end of the legacy. Those who use Evernote simply deserve respect too. Blame Evernote, Don't Blame Us

??? Is there a way to search for attachment titles like 'untitled attachment'???

This would help identify affected notes / attachments and see how big the problem actually is. Maybe only a few notes were corrupted, but no way to be sure.

The advanced search options don't list this as an argument..

They recently reported on Twitter that they are about to launch a new section in Evernote dedicated to showing only files attached to notes. I imagine it might be useful for searching these pdfs

It depends on the entry (both iOS and Mac):

    1.Text (without a space) doesn’t convert

    1. Text (with a space) converts into a numbered list, with an indent

Personally I see it as a convenient way to start a list. Nice is this: If you start with another number, plus a space, the list will start with that number. Works up to  3 digit numbers.

The same will happen with typing a - (dash): Dash followed by a space converts into a bulleted list. Dash without a space remains a dash.

I'm using version 10.84.3 on Windows 10 and it works the same way as you mentioned.

Before Legacy shut down I exported everything to ENEX files (22.000 notes mostly with PDF attachments, 80 GB).

I just imported my largest notebook into Keep It (7200 notes) and voila, the note with the 'untitled attachment' was right there with the attachment.

So obviously in the upgrade to V10 the attachment was deleted / corrupted, interestingly without leaving a trace in note history. What bothers me most is that I only accidentally found this note (and a couple of other similarly corrupted) so there is no way to estimate how much is lost and whether important stuff is affected.

Have you downloaded v10 recently? If so, perhaps you didn't wait that long for the database to be fully downloaded.

v10 is horrible. I switched over from Legacy well ahead of time. That didn't make it any better.

A lot of users here don't seem to see the major issues that many of us have w/ v10. They're excited by new developments such as AI (buzz buzz), and don't seem to care about the missing functionality, the incredible slowness, and the instability.

I agree that we all need to make our voices heard, but unfortunately the only folks who seem to be listening are other members in this forum -- some of whom will simply tell you you have a bad attitude and to just live with it.

There is no support to speak of. Not sure how long they can sustain that business model (especially with the huge price hike), but the truth is, they have many of us hooked. I can't switch to a new app without a major disruption in my work schedule. So for now I tolerate the many minor disruptions that waste my time each day. It's a terrible situation.

I know Legacy isn't coming back, but for crying out loud, making the app actually work for note taking rather than piling on new and often useless features seems like a logical approach for the dev team...

    1 - I don't think v10 is horrible.
2 - I don't think v10 is slow, much less unstable. I use it every day and I'm satisfied with its speed
3 - There really are several features missing in v10. Fortunately for me, none of them are essential. I hope that in the coming months or years BS can include them

I have never been emotional about an application. I have never hated an application that I have become so dependent on over the years and that I used to love, since the company has now forced me to move to an update so terrible.

Most of the fights around here are related to this. Users defending the legacy (or defending v10) as if it were a God. Evernote is good but it's just another software. If tomorrow it ends, life continues.
