  1. I use Evernote on many different platforms.... now I have a new Chromebook and am thrilled with the performance, beating out Windows easily. This is now my go to device for work and writing. I'm thrilled to be able to use the Evernote Android app on this platform. Overall, it works well.... except for one thing... the creation of a new note. It takes 45-60 seconds for the note content area to FINALLY be available in this situation. My conclusion is the "template" thing in the note area apparently takes a while to load. This bogs down the application on something I rarely have use for. My suggestion to the Evernote development team: Please give us the option in Settings to disable the Template button thing that appears in the note content area. Put this in a menu, NOT in the body of the note. It's slowing down your app WAY down. And forcing something on users that frankly gets in the way. OK... some users may want it.... thus the option in Settings to turn on/off that kind of functionality. The less that Evernote (or any other software vendor) forces something on users, the better. Some may say, "Why don't you use Evernote in the Chrome browser"? I do. It's MUCH faster than the Android app on this platform. However, it is not offline. There are times when I am in a location where I don't have access to the Internet but I need access to my notes and to be able to create notes. That's part of why I'm a veteran Evernote user. Bottom line: the Evernote Android app operating on Chrome would be a SO MUCH BETTER experience if Evernote would put in place the suggestion above. Something is slowing down note opening... especially when creating a note.... I suspect it's this new Template thing that Evernote puts in the middle of note creation. Thank you.
  2. I concur with what CalS said (below) I just downloaded Evernote for Windows version and now many of my notes are empty. Or Evernote will say "downloading content". Why? The content should ALREADY be "downloaded" and in Evernote desktop. Someone else said this and I strongly (and sadly) concur: the Evernote people are infamous for breaking "something else" whenever there is an update. I have been using Evernote Premium for 8 years and this has always been the case. It's called poor version management and poor quality control. I absolutely dread downloading Evernote's latest "updates'. More like BREAKS to me. There is absolutely no excuse for this. Apparently, Evernote could care less or they would stop doing this. This is no "knee-jerk" complaint on just one issue. This has happened dozens of times over the last 8 years. Enough is enough. As soon a competitor comes up with a worthy replacement, I'm gone. Unfortunately MS OneNote does not do tags that are equivalient to the hundreds embedded in my nearly 15,000 notes.
  3. Thanks everyone for you helpful input on this topic. I'm glad to hear that the latest version may have addressed this issue.
  4. UPDATE: the bug occurs when you add a new note after having performed a search based on a tag. That should not happen. Just because I search something, doesn't mean I'm forced into using a tag in a new note.
  5. Ever since the latest Evernote update the following bug has developed: Click new note button to create a new note. A new note comes up, but instead of having no tags it already has one tag in it and this tag cannot be removed, not matter what I do. Long time user of Evernote. Know what I'm talking about. I know normal Evernote functionality. This is not a normal. this is a bug. Please fix ASAP. Thank you. Windows desktop version: (305825) Windows version: 10 Home latest
  6. Thanks, csihilling. Hopefully, Evernote will get going and get this fixed.
  7. To see the list of Saved Searches in Evernote, according to the Evernote Help webpage on Saved Searches: As of Evernote version (305512) Public, this functionality is no longer working. Clicking or tapping on the Search Notes box or the magnifying glass icon at the right of that box does nothing. I would appreciate it if Evernote engineering would fix this bug right away, as this is essential Evernote user functionality. Thank you.
  8. Yeah, been there done that many times in over 40 years of doing tech. I will say in all those years, Evernote is close to the top of the list for having the nasty habit of breaking things that were working before with their "latest updates". They really need to improve their quality control standards when it comes to the release of a version of their software. I've observed this only with their Windows application. Android, it's a different (way better) story. Needless to say, I'm going through the drill with their tech support of sending logs, etc.....
  9. Evernote support has finally reached out to me and I am sending them information and logs Etc. It is interesting that I'm having this happen on two separate machines running two different versions of windows with two separate Evernote accounts. It's also interesting that this is exactly like the problem that existed before and when that problem existed Evernote had told me that it was a known issue with their software. As a matter of fact they encouraged me to download a beta version of the next software and that worked. And then of course that next version of software with the correction replaced the beta version. Things were going quite well for a few months and then bang here we go back to square one same problem of sluggish typing. I hope they reexamine their code and fix the problem thanks
  10. [I sent this out via Evernote Support on May 4th and besides a computer-generated email response saying "we got your support request and we'll be in touch with you", Evernote Support (and I am a Premium paying customer) has been silent for 4 days]: We are back to square one: months ago I complained about the terrible, sluggish performance of Evernote when typing a note. The next update of Evernote cleared out the issue. Everything wonderfully well after that corrective update. Unfortunately, the latest update, "version (304720) Public" which was I installed about 2-3 weeks ago is terrible. We are back to the problem I had earlier: when typing in a note VERY sluggish performance. It's like I'm typing through molasses. This is happening on this, my personal Evernote Premium account, on a Windows 10 PC AND a separate work account (another Evernote Premium account), on a Windows 7 Pro PC. So, clearly, the problem is NOT my computer. It IS your software. PLEASE fix this! It is ruining my productivity. Thank you. Please stop releasing buggy updates that ruin perfectly well functioning software! Your Quality Control department needs to do a much better job of vetting updates to make sure you are not deploying buggy software!
  11. I downloaded version 6.05... with some trepidation since I thought that Evernote would have eviscerated the desktop application like they did the web application (a la, "Minimalist") and to my immense relief the excellent functionality is there without the painfully slow searches. I'm also getting fewer application stalls in Windows. The interface seems cleaner. Now, if Evernote would take the same approach in the web application, I would be thrilled.
  12. Didn't notice. Definitely can count on you to come up with a great productivity hack for my top two productivity tools: Evernote & WorkFlowy! Both are open in separate tabs in Chrome right now! Mark
  13. What started out as a necessity -- using the web application (switched on to "old" layout) -- has now become habit and preference. I have little to no interest in the Windows application. Better use of computer resources that way. Works better in my work flow.
  14. Thanks, Frank.dg for the helpful idea about throttling down the incremental search. (Are you the Frank dg of WorkFlowy fame?) Thanks to Team Evernote (briancaldwell) and your quick response. My intention is to at least get my thoughts heard. Too often, companies find out that they are losing their customer when the customer bails out. By then it's too late. I care about Evernote and would prefer to stay. That's why I'm talking now. One thing Evernote should immediately do is more (not a lot) surveying of its customers. Most of it can be closed end, how you like or dislike certain things, then some suggestions for improvement, then 1 or 2 questions that can take an open-ended response. I look forward to trying out Evernote 6, when it is an incremental version above ".0". My big huge complaint is the way that Evernote gutted Evernote Web in the "latest and greatest". There are MANY times I need and rely on that. The "old" was close to the same functionality of the desktop version. The "new" departs significantly to the point of a massive DOWNGRADE of functionality. That is a serious, serious lapse in Evernote's judgment. Let's hear more about your roadmap. Where is Evernote going? We users are along for that ride. It's nice to get ample warning ahead of time that says, "Hey, we're totally changing the user interface". I agree with jbenson2's comments. Thanks, Mark
  15. I just filled out a survey from Evernote about pricing. That's it. No space to allow me to share my thoughts. So, I hope someone high up in Evernote will pay attention to what I write here, because they are about to lose a faithful Premium Evernote user of 6 years. Evernote in many ways has been a wonderful product. I really appreciate it's cross-platform capabilities. I have used it on iOS, Android, Windows, Window ap store and web. Here my observations/gripes/reasons for looking elsewhere. In other words, some real gut-level customer intel: It seems like Evernote peaked about 2 years ago. Then it seems like it is declining. I have made suggestions for improvement and there is no response. In this business, that is practically suicide. The "new" web product is atrocious. Yes, it is great for not creation but it is hugely terrible for organization. This RADICAL trashing and transformation of a very successful product is uncalled for. I have complained REPEATEDLY about the horrible search capabilities of the Windows desktop app. It takes FOREVER to get around to producing results. The real pain is that as you type, every character, character by character, it searches and STALLS. God forbid if you make one little mistake while typing. Meanwhile, the search interface in Android is incredible. It is very frustrating as a customer to complain about a REAL problem and Evernote is deaf. Does nothing to fix this. I can't tell you how many times a day I'm using the Windows desktop application (on different machines, ranging from a Windows 7 PC of a couple of years to a hypersonic brand new with Windows 10 machine) and it will stall with the infamous "Evernote not responding". Please. That has caused me to abandon the desktop application to slog my way through that dreadful "new" web monstrosity. All of this portrays a dying company to me. Not the incredible, vibrant, innovating company of just a couple of years ago. I have a ton of data in Evernote, both for work and a separate account for personal stuff. Evernote never communicates to me about what they do about the security and PRIVACY of these notes that we entrust to their care. Meanwhile, everyone else in today's world practically falls over themselves to let it's faithful users KNOW what they do to protect OUR data. Not just security but PRIVACY. Over the last 6 years, I don't recall Evernote ever going out of their way (i.e., an email) to let me know. Maybe it's on a blog page somewhere. Well, I don't have time to "keep up" with a blog page. Meanwhile, Microsoft Onenote just keeps getting better and better. I am waiting for Microsoft to finally wake up and smell the coffee to do two things to entice former Evernote users into its fold: Provide an easy way to import Evernote notes into Onenote Support a note tagging scheme like Evernote. I HEAVILY rely on tags. Evernote... are you listening? This long-time, faithful Premium customer is close to exiting, going to your competitor and never coming back. I am a person that refers people to great productivity technology. Evernote has gotten new customers because of my recommendation. I can't do that anymore because I simply don't trust Evernote anymore. Anyone out there in the upper echelons of Evernote listening? Knock, knock, knock... are you there? Get back to what you were. Start innovating. Start improving. Don't EVER stop. Or you'll be gone. Sincerely, Waiting.
