  1. The quickest way to delete a task completely is to use SHIFT + Up/Down on the keyboard to select one or more tasks and then just use Backspace to delete, as you would with any other text. Alternatively, you can click into the Task text and then click the Trash/Bin icon that appears to the right.

I guess if you have a lot of tasks in a note (Errands or Todo List) then you may want to just clear these out, but often I add one or two tasks to a Note reminding me to do something that requires the context in the Notes content - like Actions from Meeting Notes or follow up a refund for an online purchase etc. I tend to leave this in the note so I can see it's been taken care of.

  2. I ran into an error on a recent backup but retried the following day and it was fine. With the ending of Legacy support and the API not being publicly updated for years I wondered if evernote-backup had reached the end of life. I know that the ENEX files are missing some new features, like Tasks, but for me these backups are a last resort and I'd only need them if the Evernote service imploded completely and I'd honestly be glad to have the majority of my Notes content grouped by Notebook.

As other companies try to lure users away from Evernote, ENEX has become a bit of a standard import format, so even though it's not as easy to work with as plain text, I know that we'd be welcomed in a number of places with varying degrees of success (Apple Notes, Obsidian etc)

  3. I've been an Evernote user since 2008, but version 10 has ruined my life...

Kidding :D Just following the tone of many of the moans on here.

In fact, I'm pretty happy with all the recent updates. It seems like we're being treated to lots of quality improvements along with a couple of new features. Just thought I'd post my own personal bugbear. Please can indented paragraphs match up with the text on a list item?

I organise my daily notes around a list of tasks that need to be checked off, but they often have URLs and notes that go along with them. It ends up looking like the list below. But the OCD part of me always gets irked by the headers not lining up with the indented paragraph below.

I guess it's just a tweak to the margins, but it would make things look a lot tidier. Thanks!

PS I'll submit this as a support request too. Just thought I'd copy here incase anyone else has the same reaction.

  4. @PinkElephant I know most Safari Extensions are content blockers or dark mode doodads, but 1Password, Good Links and Raindrop all have pretty good Extensions. I wonder whether it's more market forces than technical reasons that more aren't available.

As a developer, I like to spend a little time figuring these things out and see what's feasible before ruling things out. Thought it might be worth throwing on here in case someone more in the know about the Web Clipper codebase saw the post.

  5. I'd love to have the desktop web clipper available on iOS/iPadOS. Currently I clip things using the Share Sheet option, which is equivalent to doing a "Full Page" capture on desktop. I usually end up recapturing the page when I'm back on my desktop to make a better job of it.

I looked into this and found the following Apple Developer document https://developer.apple.com/safari/extensions/

Upgrading macOS Safari web extensions to support  iOS and iPadOS

It's easy to upgrade an existing macOS Safari web extension to also support iOS and iPadOS. Simply rerun your project through the command-line web extension converter tool with the --rebuild-project option. This will create a new Xcode project based on your existing project that includes extensions for these platforms.

Surely it couldn't be that simple? I'd have a go if I had access to the source code. It would be amazing to do a Simplified Article or Bookmark capture directly from Safari on mobile.

  6. Thanks for the suggestion. I can see how that would work - but it's not really convenient to have two L shaped bits of paper around all the time.

I do use Microsoft Lens and the Scan option in Google Drive quite regularly, but the advantage of snapping something out of a magazine directly in Evernote is that it does in as an image rather than a PDF, so the content appears inline on all platforms. Rather than a PDF that often needs to be opened in another application.

    I can live in hope!

  7. +1 -- I'm finding this an issue too.

For example, if I take a photo of a magazine page where I only want to save a rectangular area for a certain article or advert. There isn't a way to crop the image immediately before saving it back to the note, which to me seems like missing functionality.

As @gazumped points out, you can then 'Annotate' each image once it's in the note to crop it to a simple rectangle, but having to make a second pass of the images seems like a slow workaround.

If a crop tool could be included at the camera stage that would be very helpful and speed up the capture. Ideally, you'd be able to set the point at each corner, but I'd take a simple rectangular crop for now.
