I just tried upvoting but it seems to have stopped at 121. I started using computers in 1981. Out of thousands of programs I've used, this and Quicken for Mac are the ONLY ones that have dropped features with new versions. I do not understand the mindset of offering the paying customer less, especially when the customer paid for service for a year understanding the features and benefits. I'm sure it's written in the fine print of the EULA, but normally, this would be a contract violation. My landlord can't decide to take away a bedroom, or stop providing water. If I were to lease a car, they cannot decide to remove and take back a wheel. If I pay for merchandise, the merchant can't decide to send me less for the same amount contracted for. And we are not told about it. We each think we have done something wrong or the feature has moved. We have to spend time (if we have it) to figure out what happened. They know most people will never get into the forum, let alone find the right message or figure out how to upvote it. The 121 complaints in this message alone easy represents the views of 3k or more! Today you buy something in a store and when you are handed your receipt you can discover what you agreed to. Buy an airline ticket or drive into a parking lot and your ticket tells you what you agreed to. There are places that you enter and are then told you have agreed to something. And the EULAS are a classic (look up the Southpark episode) . They say the software company does not guarantee the software works or does anything or even won't damage your equipment. You agree not to sue or join a class action suit, but have to chose an arbitration service paid for by the software company. The arbitration company has an agreement that the software company promises to abide by any "independent decisions" along with an agreement that they can drop the arbitration company at any time....it's clear that if they support the customer, they lose a huge client. Independent, my *ss. Evernote has bought into the scr*w the customer model. Like a drug dealer, we get hooked, then find the price goes up and we can't use our own data and are stuck with the company. It speaks the the very ethics and principles of the owner. The decisions that represent these ethics operate in the zone just above criminal theft. But merely looking at the software binds us to an agreement that we agree to theft and the delivery of nothing. Evernote, is designed to save me time in organizing my information. And each new version slows down and drops VITAL features needed. We have to beg for it back in Evernote's version of the Hunger Games. And finding the support this is hidden, so it looks as if the features are only needed by a few. And I think the fact that I could not vote it up makes it look like only a few need it. Perhaps we only get one vote. I PAID for a license to use software that includes this feature. Under normal conditions, this would be actionable in court. But just to look at this software, we have given up our rights to do anything but use it and pray. It shows ABSOLUTE DISREGARD FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS. It does not just ignore customers. It takes actions to hurt them.

There are those who are organized by nature. I am not one of them. I have 4k notes. SOME are labeled well and SOME are in the correct Notebook/Stack. I have many duplicates and many blank notes. Some would be better if I could combine them. I have created notesbooks named "2bsortedrecipes" and "2bsortedfinancial" that represent equivalent stacks. I try to take items from my In box and move them there so I can then decide which notebook in my Recipes or Financial Stacks they belong. I go through my inbox and try to select as many items that will fit in the target stack (Command-clicks) first then move them. I can't get too many before I have to start over again because of an error, so it's not often a great way. But once I do, I'm "IN" the new notebook. I have to go back to the IN box again and scroll down the list of hundreds of notes to get back to the list. I may find blank notes or duplicates. What's the best way to do as much as possible within one view/process? Can I "scroll" through a Notebook keeping track of where I am, as I select and move multiple Notes? Can I "scroll" through a notebook editing names or deleting notes and stay in the same place? Each time I start, I get ten minutes into it make little progress. It's a big job. I may not explained this as well as I can. And the answer could be perfectly obvious. For now, I would appreciate a focus on fixing all these old notes before I look at "doing it right the first time." Thanks for your help. @agsteele Thanks. I had originally looked for feedback options and ended up here. I see that option now. I suffer from male pattern blindness. There are always good reasons not to do something, or not to do things now. I am, unfortunately, not always willing to let go unless I become aware of that. @Pinkelephant. Sounds like you have found a potential workaround that others could find helpful. Perhaps someone can find a way to fix this, or create a new search feature to include what Spotlight does today and to include Evernote. I suspect if someone makes it we won't find it on the Appstore.

One Search will rule them all. Imagine if you will, that each software company had different standards. To print in one ctrl-p, another F1, a third--wave your hands in the air. To save: Ctr-S, or Option-Cmd-S, or /fs What if each home had its own electrical standards? Imagine going into a restroom and not knowing how to flush the toilet. (You have to sing to this one.) Or after installing that huge new tv set, you find that the remote is designed to be held only at floor level....behind the tv. Going into a new parking lot, the directional signs are in Greek. And why are the lights at this intersections blue, orange, and white? What fresh hell is this? Standards--it's a good thing. There are many councils that help us know how to plug a lamp into a wall no matter the manufacturer. Cars that run on diesel or gas take different sized nozzles. The light switch to almost any room you enter is next to the door at about four feet above the ground. I know a chicken is done when I get 165 on the thermometer. (or 74 celsius--there's still work to be done) They save a lot of time, learning and money by making us productive. I can find almost anything on my computer or cloud storage or internet with Spotlight. On Windows, it's Explorer. Except for Evernote. I know there are those people who remember anything, or have plenty of time to do multiple searches, or never need to search. There aren't many of them. (You will see their responses here.....stating that Evernote shouldn't have any features if they don't need it. (Carefully note the ruby-throated narcissist's call. 😤 Sometimes it is: "I shouldn't have to pay for public schools--I don't have kids." Another calls back "Why are we sending FEMA to New Orleans--I don't live near hurricanes?" Sometimes as they get older, you may hear: "I don't care about global warming--I won't be alive.") Mac users know there is One Search to Rule them All. You see everything in almost any format on your computer, your network, your cloud drive or the Internet. But if it is in Evernote....it's lather, rinse and repeat. Separating my trash is a necessity, but not searching. Evernote--you are trying to bring order to our information, but a separate search pulls us into the morass of entropy by requiring a separate process. Order or Chaos? How about you let us use Spotlight and I will send you my diagram showing how to replace a light bulb in a Serbo-Croatian fixture in less than 320 steps? Pretty please? 😍 Mac Users will love you!

I have a 19 page document. It gets to the send page and will not send, share, or save. There is no error message. It only allows me to deselect all or choose imag/pdf or cancel. iPHone xr, latest os.

Hi Gazumped. I was using the application on my Mac. I highlight text, but it allows me to do nothing. But you did get me to look at the situation. At the top of the document is an icon labeled web clipping. (See the picture below) When I click on that line, it allows me to simplify the formatting (remove HTML) and I can edit it. I just didn't expect an extra step....I thought it was much like cutting and pasting. Oh, Evernote;..can you create an error message, so that if someone clicks on text from the web clipping that says it cannot be edited until one clicks on the right place? Or even better let's them choose to do it if they click on the text. Solved! (For me, but will be encountered by many other. (Amazing how simple many things are if there's just a sign.)

I used the Web Clipper to save an entire article. I only need to keep part of it. Evernote won't allow me to edit the document. ?? It seems that Evernote is becoming less intuitive, losing features and becoming slower.

It increases the chance you will forget to name it. In just about every computer program if you are creating a document you name it first. These are standards and to change that standard/mindset, there needs to be a very good reason. If you enter a room, you know the light switch will be at about shoulder height on the side of the opening. You've moved the switch to ankle height. \ Poems, books and works of art sometimes are named afterwards. but there is at least a title for a document

Evernote now takes as long as a minute to start after clicking the icon. The icon bounces for a bit then a white screen opens and is blank, then individual lines are drawn and finally:\the task bar on the left, the last searh on the top of the screen and one of the results at the bottom on a very plain screen. Well then it seems to me that the best solution would be to have users select their choice in Preferences.

Perhaps there is a way to do this. If not a suggestion. When I start a new note the cursor is in the body and I need to move it up tot hte title to change that. Can this be changed? On a Mac, it means removing a hand from the keyboard, finding the mouse and moving the cursor. I'd like to type the title then move on to the body.

We all need to find things that we have on our computer. In a world of chaos, one would have to search for Word Documents using one application, mail content using another, text documents with another method, then to search for postit notes, presentations, spreadsheets, texts, separate email from each platform, a new search for each individual folder or drive, file names with another application (but if you want to search by extension or date, there would be another application.) Oh, one needs special hardware and new cables to do these searches and some require rebooting. The ability for computers to become ubiquitous has been based upon standards. Granted not everyone plays well with others. There may be some of you who like the complexity. But when a computer user wonders where the notes they took about something were in email or a text file or in Evernote....or maybe even discussed in a text file......or wondering who it was that he emailed about plumbing supplies a year ago, or where she can find a copy of a contract, users want to be able to search without remembering the location, format, and program one was using at that time. For those of us who rely on Evernote, we also need to be able to search on our computers whether with Spotlight or Windows Explorer or Find in Unix, etc. I'm certain Apple is not always the easiest to deal with, and may not want to play well with others, but conducting searches twice is not focused on the needs of the users. There's a choice: Either Spotlight can search Evernote or Evernote can search all files and locations and types. It seems the first makes more sense. The question is has Apple refused or ignored the need to search Evernote, or has Evernote prevented them from doing so? It doesn't really matter. This is Apple's playing field. One may not like the rules used there, but if you're going to play there, that's what they are. If Apple is creating barriers for Evernote that they don't create for every other piece of software, let us know. I'm sure enough people would express their opinions to Apple. But if they are not, please do what you can to work together to make our lives easier.....that's why we have Evernote. You have created an application that is customer-centric. That is rare. You respond to our needs. Sometimes needs may differ. I have seen your responsiveness. This is something that impacts everyone that has a Mac and as search is something done so frequently can have the biggest effect on the total hours of additional work done by your users. Knowing how I am, I've probably made many errors in the letter. Even so, only Evernote can work to fix this. Thanks.

I like the new look....the quicknote is great. But I wonder if Starbucks has a hand in it. It seems I have time to go to Starbucks while waiting for the program to open. I don't want to say Evernote is slow, but I did finish War and Peace while waiting. I do most of my work in the inbox and then move to the right notebook. I had trouble dragging before and now I can do that. Previously there was a move to the <> folder again. I'd like to see that again. Also if I am moving to a Notebook named "Essays and Writing," I used to type ess, then hit enter. Now it takes more steps. Question: Most of the time Mac uses the term delete to remove something and every so often move to trash. We get trained to delete a file. I'd prefer EN to use delete.

Clicking update, I am told I have the current version 7.14, yet if I download Evernote, there is a version 10. Could someone tell me the difference, and why the conflicting information? I've got a macbook air, retina, 2013 running OX 11.1. Thanks.

I can understand shutting down a feature if it doesn't run well or creates other problems. I would hope they are trying to find a way for it to work. Right now I have spotlight indexing my entire drive and I exclude video and music files.

I used to be able to do it. What features would be missing to keep spotlight as the one search. Using Evernote to search throughout might be an acceptable alternative. I have not seen how to do that. I have not surveyed every Mac User, but I think it is reasonable to assume that searching one tije and finding all the information in one place is superior to doing it twice with two applications. I didn't say all. Some people prefer making their lives more difficult. Doing twice as much work may be fine for you. Don't minimize the impact on others. As far as not having the feature. Spotlight currently searches in all applications. So they have all allowed Spotlight to work. But even if that weren't the case, the abioity to search once would be a competitive edge. Wny would they stop supporting a co=mpetitive edge. If you can tell me how Evernote can search itself and other places, it would be easier than doign double work...it may be a close 2nd choice. I appreciate that you and I and others have different needs. If you needed something I would encourage you to ask for that to be taken care of. If I didn't need it, I wouldn't disagree with it being done for you.

I'm quickly trying to catch up with things right now. It seems to me that the focus will be on Evernote for the Web and not on the user's machine. But my basic issue is the same. Evernote's key reason for being is to help people stay organized with content. It allows us to put all sorts of different content in custom-designed databases for retrieval when needed. One of the chief tools to finding that content is the ability to search all our content easily. Without good search tools we are dead in the water. Imagine the Library of Congress without a searchable database or the WWW without search engines. It seems that Evernote 7.14 is not successful in using Spotlight. So for those of us who depend on that, we must do 2 searches: Spotlight and Evernote. I don't believer the new 10.0 would be able to search online and on or own machines, either. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) I lose track of where I place things so often, I am petitioning the Pope to make Waldo a Saint. It seems Evernote is abandoning a tool that is a requisite in its very existence. Evernote has been helping me simplify my life. Losing the ability to search all my content simply threatens continued progress. We are all inundated with content, so I don't think this is just my need. I hope I've jumped to some conclusions or made some incorrect assumptions. It feels like I've been in a wheelchair for years and finally found a simple crutch that lets me walk, but now that crutch is being taken away. Without the ability of being able to search all one's content easily, Evernote will no longer be needed by most customers.

One feature in some programs is to set the blank space beneath a paragraph, allowing one to hit enter once and still have a white line. When imported into Evernote, I can remove the blank lines, but not always. If it converts to two hard returns, I can delete one. But some still have too much blank space between them. I can't figure out how to remove it in Enote and have to paste into a word processor to change the paragraph formatting before putting it into Enote again. Any way to make this easier?

I will try to keep this short. I'll start out with where I am now--I don't know what Evernote data will be on my Mac tomorrow. Evernote would freeze every so often. I ran Etrecheck and found it was crashing multiple times each day. I wrote in and was told to look for a check mark in notes to identify any that were not synced. I responded and asked if there were some easier way to see the checkmarks as it was going to take me a long time to check 3,000 notes. I was then told to move a large folder from my library top to my desktop so it would rebuild the index. That's not something I do much and didn't feel confident. I was getting some warnings about quitting Evernote so I sent another note in. I then got a message back to back up my data. I responded that I had already done what I was told and was worried about exiting. Then I noticed that there were only five notes on my computer out of the almost 3,000. My iphone and online seemed to have the correct amount. I still didn't know what the crashes were from but knew I wanted to avoid my computer overriding the 3,000 notes during a sync. I was instructed to use option-sync several times which did nothing. Meanwhile I'd sent Etrecheck reports, system log files and Evernote log files. I understand there is a sequence to be followed in problem solving, but at the same time, there were errors in directions, which didn't leave me feeling secure. This is about 9 days into the process with as many as 3 or 4 emails back and forth each day. Then I got a message that my case was being transferred to Tech Support. I thought I was talking to tech support but apparently not. I had a real "syncing" feel in my stomach. I got mew info fr,m Tech Support and just to be certain wrote back a history as there were so many emails, one could get lost. He confirmed that he understood and said to go ahead. The first instruction was to "Exit all Evernote Accounts." No such item appeared in the menu. I've written back 3 times but that was over he But I didn't have such a command. That was Friday and I've emailed back. So it's about now 14 days since I contacted them. I still had five notes on my Mac and 3k online and phone. That is until about an hour ago. An hour ago I checked again. It appears all the notes suddenly reappeared after about a week; I ran Etrecheck again and there haven't been any crashes. When the data disappears then re-appears a week later, I get nervous. During this period, I searched for how to do a backup or copy/export data from my iphone or online, but saw nothing. I don't know if tomorrow my data will disappear again. Can anyone offer a suggestion about: a) the initial crashes b) the problem quitting Evernote after moving the library folder c) the reason I lost most of the notes on my Mac. d) Why it didn't sync e) Why the notes spontaneously re-appeared f) Is there a way for me to backup online or from my phone if this happens again. g) What I should do to avoid problems h) How I can tell if the three locations have the same data. i) How I will be able to sleep. Yes that's correct. It does seem to work if I click on the elephant. The right click works on this page, but did not on some other web pages including cnet, forbes, and technobuzz. It also only offers one option on this page. So clicking the elephant may be better for me. I can see when it happens in the future and send you urls, if this is not enough. And I will use the icon from now on....it's better and easier for me.
