  1. It is no longer present, this is actually my problem: I have to use an old version of Evernote to be able to deactivate hardware acceleration and have a usable Evernote. I am currently on version 10.66.5 If you want to do a test, to see if you have the same problem as me, install 10.66.5 and disable hardware acceleration by checking the box in the settings (preferences\application : advanced) : I used this site to download the old version : https://evernote.fr.uptodown.com/windows/versions But maybe your Evernote has not this problem, it's just slower than the legacy one you used before, and for that I don't think there's anything to do for the moment unfortunately. Look at my comparative measurements above between v10 and legacy here (Expand my quote, legacy measures are at the end):
  2. In my testing, I tried using Evernote Windows alone without other apps and the problem was the same (and I also watch out for auto-start apps). I also think the web version of Evernote was causing the same high GPU usage issue, but I'm not sure. In any case, using the web version is not an option for me, as I was already having trouble switching from the native app to the Electron app... I think there may be a bug that causes heavy GPU usage when hardware acceleration is enabled, perhaps specific to Intel HD graphics GPUs like the one I have. Evernote should dig a little deeper into my problem, I think, to maybe find the cause.
  3. Thanks for your advices. I wrote to Evernote Support about this specific issue 2 months ago now, and 2 weeks ago I got this response:
  4. I should have clarified: I have been a user of Evernote since 2011 and version v10 since 2021. My problem is not linked to a recent installation of v10, my database is completely downloaded and I have already several times completely uninstalled Evernote with Revo to recreate my database.
  5. The arrival of v10 meant that my Windows application became slower and my Android application was unusable. I spent hours with Evernote support regarding these issues. Even today I don't really take advantage of Evernote like I used to. From my point of view, I had been paying the same price for 6 years for an application that worked less well. Evernote ended up offering me a subscription because they couldn't find immediate solutions. So It's all a matter of point of view I listed my PC specs in my post. Besides, I created an independent topic here: Yes my PC is old but the only application with which I have slowness problems is Evernote. It bothers me to replace it just for one application, even if I feel that it will perhaps become the only solution for this hardware acceleration thing because Evernote hasn't a solution. But for the moment I can't afford to buy a new PC for €500-1000 + pay the new subscription of €100 per year, just for a note-taking application.
  6. Hi, I created a separate topic for my problem which is still not resolved:
  7. Hi, I am creating this independent topic regarding a problem mentioned in this topic, namely that Evernote is extremely slow, and even unusable on my PC when hardware acceleration is activated. The problem is that the option to disable hardware acceleration is no longer present in new versions of Evernote, which forces me to use an older version to be able to use Evernote, 10.66.5. Here is a copy of the results of my performance tests that I published on the other topic: And here is the latest response I received from Evernote regarding the issue: So I still don't have a solution to my problem and today I just received another email from Evernote telling me that my subscription was going to increase. A year ago it had already increased from €29.99 per year to €49.99 per year, and now it goes to €99.99 per year. Between my big problems with slowness and the big price increases, it's difficult for me to be satisfied with Evernote
  8. Hi, Same for me, Evernote 10 has slowed down my workflow, I still have to wait for most actions. This morning I received an email from Evernote: Your Evernote account has been upgraded from Plus to Personal and the subscription increases to €99.99 per year. A year ago I was still at €29.99 per year, that’s a nice increase. I pay more and more for an application which for me is increasingly slow, difficult to remain faithful... In the meantime, my hardware acceleration problem is still not resolved, which forces me to stay with an older version of Evernote:
  9. Yes, several times. My current problem is really related to hardware acceleration: when it is not disabled (latest versions): my GPU is used a lot and most Evernote actions take 2 or 3 times longer...
  10. Hi, I have to find solutions to continue using Evernote. I would love to use the latest versions, but I just can't, or everything I do will take me at least twice as long. I'm still monitoring the new versions to see if the acceleration option is reinstated and/or if my problem is resolved. For example, I just tested 10.76.2: I have the same problem: 25 seconds to create an empty note... If the hardware acceleration option created problems, I would like Evernote to tell me or give me a tip on how to enable it manually with the latest versions or to help me solve my problem in another way.
  11. Hi, Still no news from Evernote support following my message of January 23, 2024 and the latest version 10.75.2 has still not reinstated the hardware acceleration option. I'm still forced to stay with 10.66.5 and avoid auto-updating to use Evernote.
  12. I've already done a complete uninstallation several times: I continue to use Evernote 10.66.5 avoiding automatic updating, so it works (hardware acceleration disabled)...
  13. Thanks, so it's equivalent to what I have with my Laptop PC CPU Intel Core i5 4310U RAM 8 GB. You mean you have the same performance as I have with my Desktop PC CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics RAM 16 GB right? I also thought about the internet connection which is therefore constantly used with Evernote 10 whereas this was not the case with Legacy, but my two PCs use the same connection and are both connected via Gigabit Ethernet. Speeds measured on my Desktop PC CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics RAM 16 GB show that the internet connection is not the cause of the slowness. Afterward, it must surely have an impact when other applications or devices request the bandwidth. But I have no plans to change Internet service provider, and I am in France.
  14. Hi, Your message made me think. For my part, since upgrading to v10 on my laptop, Evernote has always been rather slow. At the time I spent hours chatting with support and in the end, the problem was not resolved. I got used to it and I thought that all Evernote 10 users were affected by slowness problems compared to v6 legacy. In short, following your message I did speed tests, both on my laptop PC which is the one where I mainly use Evernote, and also on my faster and more recent desktop PC, but which is unfortunately not the one on which I use Evernote daily. Here are my results: FYI I have 26740 notes, and thousands of tags and my internet connection is ADSL1 (8Mb/1Mb) Evernote 10.73.4 (hardware acceleration enabled) on my laptop PC CPU Intel Core i5 4310U GPU Intel HD Graphics RAM 8 GB SSD note creation 12s 14s 20s 17s 43s and the window does not respond note display note panel 7s 5s 3s 3s 8s open in new window 16s 9s 8s 8s paste image 5s 5s 3s Suffice it to say that it is very difficult to use in these conditions 😓. Evernote 10.66.5 (hardware acceleration disabled) Laptop PC CPU Intel Core i5 4310U RAM 8 GB SSD creation note 4s 3s 3s 3s note display note panel 2s 1s 3s 8s open in new window 8s 5s 4s 5s 8s paste image 1s 1s 1s 1s I've been using Evernote at this speed for years (the move to v10), it's not very fast but I try to be patient 🧘. Evernote 10.73.4 Desktop PC CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics RAM 16 GB SSD creation note 1s 1s 1s note display note panel 3s 1s 1s 2s 2s open in new window 2s 1s 3s 2s paste image 0.5s 0.5s 0.5s I tested the desktop applications or store, the same results. Evernote Legacy 6.25.3.9348 Desktop PC CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics RAM 16 GB SSD creation note 0s 0s 0s 0s note display note panel 0s 0s 0s 0s open in new window 1s 1s 1s 1s paste image 0s 0s 0s 0s As you can see, this activated hardware acceleration thing doesn't please my laptop at all and makes the application difficult to use. But I also noticed that apart from this problem, the performance of my laptop means that Evernote does not run as well as on my faster PC. Evernote is greedy. The thing is that I don't have any plans to change my PC for the moment, but maybe adding RAM could help a little, finally if the hardware acceleration option problem is solved...
  15. Hi, I don't know if hardware acceleration problems were mentioned in this topic, but if not, here is a link to another topic where we talk about a big slowdown problem with acceleration hardware activated, which cannot be disabled in the latest versions because the option is missing:
  16. Thanks @VincentC but I have already completely uninstalled Evernote with Revo several times including the last time this morning. My PC is a bit old and not super fast, I think that contributes to Evernote being slow. On my other PC, newer and faster, it takes me 2 seconds to create a new note and see the cursor ready, and this PC is not impacted by hardware acceleration (it has the latest version of Evernote ).
  17. I just replied to the ticket I opened for this problem, and I put the link to here. But I haven't had a response for 3 days after sending my screen recording and logs.
  18. Lots of notes? Um, let's say I have almost 5000 in the trash 😳. Okay, I emptied the trash: same problem. Indeed, I do not have the option with version 10.73.4 Windows. I installed an older version, 10.66.5, the option is present and by deactivating hardware acceleration (box checked), the problem is solved! Basically, with hardware acceleration enabled: Creating an empty note takes 15-60 seconds and my GPU is 85% used: Viewing a note containing at least one YouTube video in Preview mode causes the same issue. And sometimes my computer stops responding for several minutes! In short, for me Evernote has gone from slow (since v10) to unusable with these latest versions. With hardware acceleration disabled, note creation is 3-5 seconds, and GPU usage is almost at 0! YouTube videos in preview mode no longer consume GPU but a little CPU (10%). For this reason, I chose to display them in text mode, and when I can visually preview the video, I display the preview, take a screenshot, switch back to text mode, and paste the small screenshot below. It's less greedy. The cause is therefore found, but the thing is that there is no longer an option on new versions of Evernote. I noticed that this setting creates the following line in the localsettings.json file located in %appdata%\evernote: "HardwareAccelerationDisabled": true So I tried to manually add this line but it doesn't work. Waiting for an update that restores the hardware acceleration setting, so I'm trying to stay with my old version, but it's not easy because there is no setting to disable automatic updating. I tried to modify the config.json file located in %appdata%\evernote like this: "forceUpdateOnStart": false, "popupNoteWindowLimit": 20, "updateCheckPeriodMs": 8640000000 but that's not enough. I have to manually delete the pending folder which keeps coming up in %localappdata%\evernote-client-updater If you have a more effective idea. But of course, it bothers me to turn off automatic updates, I want it to be temporary.
  19. Hi, I'm on 10.73.3 Windows and Evernote is very slow: for instance, creating a new note takes between 15s and 40s. I have a feeling it has something to do with hardware acceleration because I can see a lot of usage on my GPU, but the Hardware acceleration option is missing from the options. Is it possible to access it elsewhere? I ever tried all the common steps: disconnect, delete data on the device, revo, restart PC, etc. and I contacted the support for that (I'm waiting for a reply after I send screen capture and logs).
  20. Hi, I have yet to see the problem, I will report it in this message if it happens again. Evernote Legacy is version 6 of Evernote, so I uninstalled it. Note that my version of Evernote 10 was the Windows Store version. I uninstalled everything Revo found as traces. Otherwise, I didn't do anything else (I didn't uninstall the Clipper's Chrome extension in particular).
  21. Hi, I uninstalled Evernote (Store version) and Evernote Legacy(I had forgotten it ), all with Revo and deletion of residual files. I then restarted my PC and installed the latest Evernote desktop version. For now, it seems to work , to be continued...
