  1. How much longer will "gestures" substitute for actual utility, ie., usefulness?
  2. The way to know, with confidence greater than that afforded by mere wishes, what the future holds for Evernote, some enterprising person should create a futures market in Evernote features (and another one for whether Evernote, the company, will survive.
  3. But isn't it true that this option will eventually be taken away?
  4. Mouse1999, I share your frustration. I've asked about the same thing. I could not believe that highlighting, which I believe to be the most common form of annotation, was not provided. With sorrow, I will tell you that I have concluded that no such capability exists in Evernote nor does the company care at all. Am I being cynical? No, just empirical. This inquiry started 5 months ago. There may be a similar message thread on this issue elsewhere in the forum. To date, no employee has resolved this. What does the company imagine? No one knows.
  5. There are decisions under uncertainty that companies make that are only later found to be serious mistakes but that are difficult to reverse.  Beware Evernote: You are playing with fire.  You have lit an explosive on both ends.  You have a short-fuse to make the new interface work.  And, for the reasons  below, you are burning up your customers' faith, trust, and the company's brand equity.

Evernote is still leaving the Sword of Damocles over the heads of users for whom the new interface is a complete deal-breaker.

First, there is no guarantee that the old interface will be kept.  Second, there is no guarantee the company won't eventually force all users to adopt it.  Third, there is no guarantee that customer concerns and recommendations regarding how to improve the new interface will be considered and acted up.  Fourth, there is every reason to suppose that Evernote will not take them fully into account when the new interface clearly has been shaped not as a design artifact but instead as an aesthetic fashion statement that merely follows the current trend initiated by Jony Ives at Apple.

What basis do users have for continued loyalty?  For trust?  I respectfully suggest you change your portrait to one that makes you look like a serious person who has the appropriate humility to represent your company in the service of its customers.

  6. The new web interface is a beautiful, beautiful fashion statement. Ease of use? Who cares. The main thing is that it is sleek and modern, users be damned.
  7. "Collect and retrieve with speed and ease"? Yes. Intelligently collate? Much more problematic.
  8. Mohio looked very interesting and promising and I have tried it several times. Perhaps I lack the patience, but I don't see what it enables you to do. All the nodes seem to constantly react to what you do. No sooner do you begin to get an idea of the relationships they portray, then you do something and they all start re-orienting and flying around, leaving me uncertain what I'm seeing? What am I missing about what Mohio does?
