Having the bar right above the results makes more sense than having the bar all the way to the right as I'm trying to narrow my results down.

Again, this confounds me.  Having the bar right above the results OBSCURES them.  As soon as I click into the search field if drops 3/4 of the way down my 1600x900 display.  And doesn't get much shorter as I type and it matches possible search queries.  I wouldn't see any of my results if it wasn't next to rather than on top of the note list.

Remember that you don't just click a search and it goes away.  As you type, both the contents of the drop down refine, as well as the resulting note list.

Remember that the drop-down behavior is new to V5, and something that I'm not wholly convinced is useful all the time. I can see where it's useful sometimes, but other times I don't want/need it. Again, though, my main problem with the new location is that while I'm typing over *here*, the list that it modified is over *there*, and that's a disconnect in the UI, and a focus problem. I have to believe that there's a better solution.

I didn't connect these 2 earlier but that's probably one reason they moved it.  I can see the benefits of the recent searches showing up but it would present a problem if the search moved back to its v4 position.  Short answer have an option to have the old search bar come back right over the notes without recent history.  I know developers hate that sort of stuff but I find the v5 search location much less functional as a power user.

  2. My feedback: There is a lot to like about this update (I have written my thoughts on the betas up until this point), but there is one problem that is making it difficult for me to evaluate the changes; namely, the app is "Not Responding."

I have installed and uninstalled several times now to no avail. Apparently, the app somehow was syncing something last night when I made notes on my Mac, but not syncing everything. I have about 1,000 notes in total synced to the servers at the moment, and only 124 are showing on my Windows computer. Why these 124? I don't know.

The blue disk (Windows 7) is spinning, but nothing is happening after the app opens. I've got a netbook, so I expected it to be slow and all, but I really cannot use it. Is this a widespread issue, or is it just me? If it is just me, it might be time to retire the netbook...

    #Ultrabook time, lol. #Zenbook

Regardless, F6 puts you into the search control, as it did formerly.

F6 is a great tip, thx - BUT - it's just another example of adding keyboard strokes or mouse clicks on to V5 when it wasn't necessary in V4.  It was a simple mouse "up".  Less = more.  It's a step backwards for me.

A simple mouse up from where?

From the vertical Note list.  I find my mouse working in that area the majority of the time.

  4. No offense to EN but at this point, V5 functions more like a Beta than an official release. I have to ask myself, "Whatvthe hell were they thinking?"

Could you be more specific?I am also not a fan of the current search field placement. In fact (as you might have read in earlier posts), I am pretty strongly opinionated about it! However, I don't think moving it there is sufficient to make this seem like a beta. Rather, it seems like a design choice I don't agree with. It isn't especially clumsy there (no more than the Mac version) or anything like that.Besides the search field, are there elements about the release that you had in mind?

    Search field placement

Glitch/bug in Outlook tagging (tags don't appear in OL)

I prefer more color, not less

There are other nagging items but I'm honestly too tired to think of them, lol. More tomorrow. Peace all.

I went back to V4; The Search Bar being moved way over to the right side was reason enough...I have a 27" LCD and that's a lot of mouse movement.

I don't care for the location of the search control either (whined bitterly several times in the beta threads), but F6 puts you over there, with no mouse movement required.

Hard to visualize that. On my 24", "over there" is virtually the entire right side of the monitor, where-as before it was just a little box in the Center. I've may lost a couple inches to the left, but I've gained more on the right. And since that's where I'm typing, mousing and clicking formatting controls anyway, I'm only mousing straight up 1 inch to click in the search.

My take on it was this: the search control directly modifies the note list, and for those of us who use snippet or card view, it's wholly disconnected from the UI element that it's most closely tied to. Still doesn't make sense to me. I search to find a small range of notes that I can pick from. This arrangement doesn't work for me.

Makes sense.  I find my mouse residing more on the left and middle, hence, it was easier for me to use the v4 Search Bar.

I REALLY don't like the location of the Search Bar.  It also cuts off my Toolbar shortcuts.  Very annoying and makes me have to click more.  Less clicks = better please.

I have found that closing Evernote and reopening it again sorts the sizing in the toolbar. Try Exiting via File -> Exit and opening EN again.

I believe that there is a fixed minimum size limit though, so it wont be shrunk to nothing if you add too many things.

Thanks that did fix the cutoff but I preferred the location of the Search Bar in v4.  Why was it moved?  It used to be in a very natural place......for me anyway, lol.  V5 is noticeably speedier which is good.

  8. RobD, check the "Style" section of the right click menu, or Ctrl + Shift + H.

Thanks that helps but I think it would make more sense to have a frequently used function like the Highlighter available from the immediate right click menu.

  9. I'd like to be able to select text to be highlighted, right click and left click "Highlight".  Is this possible to add?

Also, when adding a note via Outlook 2010, (32-Bit), I type in a tag and it doesn't appear....it's just blank with an "x" as if it was actually typed in.  The tags do appear as they should within the Windows Desktop Client.

Honestly. V5 is still in beta, but it's a public beta. Use it, or not, your choice. The preview announcement was just that -- an preview of the features that will be in V5, which, yes, is a beta, and it's also official, because it's from Evernote -- it's an official public beta. Release date unknown at this time. #sheesh #mountainfrommolehill

No need to get your panties all twisted, lol. It's a public forum discussion.  Obviously there's A LOT of confusion on the beta or non-beta status of V5, that's all.   #Testy #SensitiveMuch?

  12. Okay so I had to download EN5.  Maybe too soon.

Yes, it does look cleaner and less cluttered..

I save space by not displaying the left pane as it is just a lot of things I don't use often.

But there are a few I do use.   BUT..   I can't put items/objects on the toolbars anymore. I used to have my frequent notebooks and tags up there (a couple of each).  at work i had a work one.

then I had a notebook dropdown rather than the left pane..

why why why can't i drag these things up there anymore?  When I try it puts a not symbol and won't put it thee.

    PLEASE?

The change to the toolbar has been lamented in the various V5 beta topics any number of times. Lots there worth reading for those who haven't dared to dip their toes into the pre-release, and might want to think twice about it... Of course, there are those reminders... and text highlighting...

Would someone please tell me why I should try the V5 Beta?  Reminders?  Don't I already have that capability?  Are there any earth shattering reasons why I should jump in now?

If you want to try the V5 beta, I advise you to first read the V5 beta comments, and also look at the V5 video that just came out. If you have specific questions, then feel free to ask.

The video is a joke. EN trying to be like Apple. Doesn't really delve into what sets v5 apart and hopefully above V4. Cleaner, flatter, I don't care. Again, are there any earth shattering reasons/features in V5 that are not in v4. Thank you.
