The thing I noticed, that I was especially intrigued by was the direct import from scanner. 95% of my use case for Evernote has been scanning documents to PDF, think utility bills and such. Then using import folders to store them in a notebook. It looks like Keep It will only be an improvement, assuming I can scan to PDF and they will remain PDF and accessible via finder. I mostly Mac and iOS so I don't really mind the lack of Windows support.

Have you looked at / compared Keep It vs. Obsidian? Looks like it stores notes and files in a similar format ie. using the file system and markdown files for notes, but maybe wraps it in a simpler interface (maybe better for lazy people like me).

Personally, I started using it 12 or 13 years ago when it was new. I don't remember at what point I realized that I could use it as a place to store, search and retrieve all my piles of paper that needed to be filed or shredded or just tossed. Using import folders, it became really easy to go through a stack of mail (a week's worth, a month's worth, or many month's worth) and by setting up a folder structure locally and using naming rules in my scanner software (I've gone through a few scanners since starting) I could easily "process" my mail and shred it knowing that if I needed it later I could find it relatively easily. At some point EN was "hacked" so I moved the stuff that worried me to a local only store. Now my workflow is broken. v10 made the process much more cumbersome, legacy restored the simplicity. I don't want to be too long winded, but that's my story. I'm happy to go on if I haven't satisfied your curiosity ...

After, more thought and investigation. I think I'm going to have to move all of my EN data over to some other platform - probably Obsidian. So yeah, if you would DM me... I'm going to put some effort into recreating my scanning workflow using Brother iPrint & Scan and Obsidian. That is mainly all I've been using EN for and it's silly to continue paying. I may even be able to get a partial refund.

The point is to keep the data out of the cloud. Obsidian solves the problem.

Yeah, 5 minutes after I posted I clicked a few more buttons and realised it was already indexed and searchable. I think it's the stacks I was using that make my tree look ugly.

It was super easy, barely an inconvenience. Evernote had already created the ENEX file for me when I had done the upgrade of v10. The only real effort after installing obsidian was adding the importer plug-in, but that was pretty straightforward as well. Like I said, it's not very attractive, but I have all the documents available if I need them. I'll have to learn what I can do as far as indexing and searching inside of obsidian.

I've been using Obsidian for several minutes, and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share (such as where to find the community option on the help menu). Can you post a link?

It's a support forum. This is literally where they point you when you ask for help I know you have the capability of being helpful. I've seen you do it before, but this is not helpful to anyone. It just pollutes the thread with a bunch of garbage so you can't find the good information. You can do better. Be an example.

I recognize and acknowledge your superior knowledge of Evernote. But I asked a couple of straightforward questions and you responded with unhelpful snark. Just sayin'...

Last time I looked, v10 was not able to delete the file after importing. I'm not interested in debating whether this is a useful feature. I've already been there. It's pointless now anyway.

I don't understand why you would post this reply. It seems to just be a criticism of another poster (me), without addressing the question - accessing the archive contents without uploading it to the cloud. You seem to post here a lot, so I assume you're very knowledgeable. Do you know of a way to access the contents of and Evernote Archive, without uploading it to the cloud? It's a little under a GB containing a few thousand PDF files.

The only one that matters now is that I can't access my legacy financial docs without putting them back in the cloud. But prior to that they broke my workflow for scanning a pile of mail via import folders. That was resolved by the Legacy version (which was supposed to be a temporary solution). It all worked fine until I noticed this morning that my scans into Legacy were no longer syncing). I'll take your word that there was a red banner, but I didn't notice it. I've been using it this way for a year. I just used Legacy for importing scanned PDFs and purging the import folders as they imported. I've been using v10 on my Mac for anything else.

Any thoughts on a good document imaging solution? I've mostly been using EN for scanning paper documents before shredding (stuff like utility bills and what not). EN used to be good for that, but over the years it's really become less so.

Honestly, I just wish I'd gotten the email warning. I knew it was unlikely that v10 would ever reach feature parity, but I had no Idea they were going to just kill legacy like this. I assume my warning got caught in an email filter. But this has really screwed me. My Legacy install got wiped by the v10 "upgrade" (my bad for anticipating that). Now I have a huge Evernote Archive file that I can't open without letting v10 put it back into the cloud (stuff I made local after the last security breach). Any Ideas? Or is this thread just for ranting now? Rant, rant rant. I'm mad too.

Anyone know of a way of accessing the contents of the Evernote Archive file created from my Local Only notebook after v10 deleted my legacy install? After the last security debacle, I moved my financial stuff out of the cloud. Now, after what I thought was just a simple update of my v10 install (it "cleaned up" my legacy), it seems the only way to access those notes is to move them back into the cloud (I won't do that if it can be avoided).

To be clear, as I stated in a much earlier post in this thread, I have my workaround. I just have my import folders set up in the legacy version on my Windows laptop. But this is not a solution, it’s a workaround. I have patience and hope that eventually this feature will be implemented in the new version. Oh, and BTW I’ve recently switched to a Mac. So now I want the feature there too.

It feels like removing the coming soon. Tag would be letting them off the hook.
