Evernote updating Excel for all users?

Recommended Posts

We are considering using Evernote for our sales team of 10.  One of the questions I have is if we are all working off of the same Excel spreadsheet and it's updated by one of us, would it update live or sync to all of us?  We want to be able to collaborate and update on the fly but not sure if this will work?

Sorry for the Noob questions!

No, it will NOT work.

Evernote does NOT really provide live, real-time editing of its Notes, much less of attachments like Excel.

To change an Excel file attached to an Evernote Note, you have to open the file from Evernote on your local machine.  Once you save and close the file, it will be updated in Evernote.  Then, and only then, when you sync Evernote will other users who have joined the shared NB it is in will be aware of the change (after they have also done a sync).

Evernote does NOT notify anyone that you are doing this, even if the Note is in a shared Notebook.

If you want real-time editing of the same document by multiple users, you will need to look elsewhere, like Google docs.

Yes, a group can all use a single note with an attached spreadsheet.

No, you cannot all edit an attachment (of any kind) at the same time, but how often would you actually need this? Normally one person edits, saves, then another person edits and saves.

Once the edited attachment is saved back to the note, it will sync. Once synced everyone will see the updated attachment.

Brian, thanks for jumping in here, and confirming that there is no way via  Evernote to have multiple users editing an attachment, like an Excel file, at the same time.

Sometimes multi-user editing in real-time of the same document is a very strong collaboration tool.

I'm guessing that's why Google docs support this exact feature.
