Synchronization failed

I see this is an old topic, but don't see any solutions or anything recent.

Windows 7/ Dell Inspiron Laptop / Evernote 4.5.2.5904: Synchronization failed along with window saying "Synchronization failed, could not connect to Evernote server". This problem just started recently. Also I just now installed EN on my PC and it works fine there; so far.

Need to see last 10 lines of Help -> Activity Log immediately after "Synchronization failed" error reported.

....

Just noticed attachment. Reviewing...

....

"INTERNET_SECURITY_CHANNEL_ERROR"

I have not seen that specific error before.

It appears to mean that there is a problem with the SSL certificate for the evernote site.

Please try:

  • File/Exit Evernote for Windows
  • Shutdown restart system
  • Start Internet Explorer
  • Start Web client
    • Report details here if SSL certificate error reported
    • You might be able to proceed by ignoring certificate error, but..

    [*]Start Evernote for Windows

    [*]Re-test sync

Just tested Web client and Windows client sync here.

No certificate problems seen.

@tocorcoran2

No sync errors seen in your attached log.

Please provide screen shot of certificate error dialog.

Weird: Internet explorer wouldn't load site (attachment); Google Chrome loads it fine.

Which version of IE are you using?

Did you try to "Diagnose Connection Problems"?

Are you a Premium user?

If you can't connect to Web client in IE then EN Windows sync will not work.

I have ie9 (which I don't use; mostly use Chrome). There does appear to be a problem with ie9 as I can't log on to my password client Last Pass. So is that why Evernote won't sync?

Am a free user and don't have a connection problem other than with ie., which will load other sites fine.

Both Evernote and LastPass require secure connections (ie. SSL / https).

There is something wrong with your security settings in IE9.

i.e. The problem is specific to your IE9 browser configuration.

Unfortunately I don't/won't use Vista and can't use IE9 on XP.

Will have to research this (will be a bit, I am in the middle of another task at the moment).

If you are lucky another user with your configuration will be able to pop in first with the fix you need.

Thanks for all your help. I have Windows 7 and I restored ie9 to default settings and still cannot connect to my Lastpass site. I can connect to Evernote, but when I go to sign in "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". It used to work fine. I wonder if I should try re-installing ie? It all works on my PC.

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

  • Internet connectivity has been lost.
  • The website is temporarily unavailable.
  • The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
  • The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.
  • If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

I enabled all SSL2 and 3 and TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. Closed and restarted and still the same.

I think this is something I'll have to take up on Win7 forum.

Hmmm. Brain farted on Vista vs Windows 7.

Agreed. Good luck. Please let me know how things turn out. I collect known problems and fixes. :)

I wound up doing a System Restore to a few days ago and that fixed it. I still don't know what caused it though as i don't even use ie; much anway.

Thanks for getting back. I will put this in the Gremlin file.

FWIW. I did come up with one other possible fix.

Windows 7 refresh DNS

29th November 2009

Interpreted as: How do you clear the DNS cache in Windows 7?

It is sometimes necessary to reset and clear the cache in Windows 7 when you know that DNS changes have been made but Windows 7 is still resolving a hostname to the old IP address.

To refresh the DNS, you simple need to run the "ipconfig /flushdns" command from the command prompt, the command prompt can be run from the Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt application.

If when you run the "ipconfig /flushdns" command that you receive a message saying "The requested operation requires elevation" then you need to make sure that you run the Command Prompt with administrator privledges, which is as simple as right clicking on the application when you go to run it and choosing to "Run as administrator".

For more comprehensive information check out the Flush DNS page which contains more useful information as well as commands for other operating systems including Linux and Mac OS X.

FWIW, I just started having this problem (Win 7). I never use IE so I would not have thought it had anything to do with anything, but then this is Windows, no? So I started IE, and it was already in work on line mode. So I clicked "work offline" then clicked "work on line". Then I went to connections and started another internet connection. Nothing changed in IE, but now Evernote is able to sync (and connect .. it was not mentioned here but logon did not work either.)

I also am having password/ID problems and have had to fiddle with that several times now.

Very odd goings on.

Starting the Evernote Web client in Internet Explorer tests all the components needed for Evernote for Windows sync, including your user id and password.

What sort of "password/ID" problems are you having?
