Changing email address to existing (old and unused account-) email-address

Hi,

I want to change my email address to an email address which I registered „back in time“ to another account (which I do not use at all). This is my main email address which I just want to connect my actual account to.

How can I do this? Delete my old account for example? Is there some waiting time to be expected? Please help, as my currently used email address might close down soon.
