Easiest way to migrate to Teams and Change Email Address

Hello everyone, 

Not sure if anyone here has experience with this and can help. I did send an email to support but I know they can take quite a while to respond, so I thought I would try here. 

Our organization setup a Teams account. We want to migrate one user from her free account to the Teams account. The user's free account, as an example, is asmith@company.com (Google Account). This would be our standard company email. In order to set the user up with their Teams account, I would have to create asmith2@company.com and then migrate the data. This part is easy.

However, we would want to change the users Teams email account back to asmith@company.com and not use asmith2@company.com (as this would consume an unneccessary Google license). In order to do this, do I have to Delete the original free account that was listed as asmith@company.com? Or is the best method to just change the free account email address from asmith@company.com to, for example, asmith@gmail.com in order to change asmith2@company.com to asmith@company.com?
