Notebooks visible in main list but 'Notebook not Found' error when selecting it

Hi. I experience multiple problems with Evernote on my MacBook Air. From reading other forums it is recommended to download the app from the Evernote website rather than the Apple App Store. But when I try this just now and click on the green Download button nothing happens.

How can I tell if I have the Apple App Store version or the website-downloaded version?

And how can I fix issues like this please: notebook visible on the main listing, but 'Notebook not Found' error when selecting it; not possible to download a note attachment in the usual way and getting an error saying 'File not saved' or something like that; not being able to rename an existing notebook.

Yes, I know this problem. It happens to me in Safari.

You can right click the download button and choose the 4th option from the dropdown menu. Then the download works, a dmg file is placed in your download folder.

I have reported this problem to EN support a while ago. It was not fixed yet.
