Card View disappears when clicking on shortcut note

Evernote 10.31.6 on OSX Monterey

I'm in Card view. If I click on a note from a Card, then cardview (the panel of cards between the sidebar and the note pane) remains. But if I click on a note in my Shortcut list from the sidebar, the cardview disappears entirely, and there's no way to browse them. Is this a bug, or is it intended to function this way? 

Regardless, this is just another thing preventing me from moving to v. 10. I'm firmly on Legacy, but open v.10 every so often to see if it's become less awful to the point of usability for me. It's not there yet, and especially so if this is a design feature.

It's an intentional design feature. I've not heard anybody describe why it is a good idea or that they like it.
