PDF Contents Not Visible in Global Search

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a number of coursework PDFs stored in my notes which complement my personal notes. When searching for keywords using the global search in Evernote, it only displays the note which contains those keywords. When I open the note, if the text is typed out, it is highlighted. If it's contained in a PDF attached to the note, I have no way of knowing it's there because Evernote doesn't highlight the searched text. In order for me to locate the text, I would need to launch a second, in-note search to force Evernote to highlight the search results in the PDF attachments.

Is this expected behaviour? I would expect Evernote to display granular search results at a global level on the contents of notes and PDF attachments. What really attracted me to Evernote is the fact it can, "find anything, fast" and "find text buried deep inside PDFs" It appears as though this is not possible at a global level.

EDIT: After installing Evernote Legacy on macOS, what I'm trying to achieve works perfectly. It appears this is an issue with the new iteration of EN.

It is one of the differences between v10 and legacy that still exist. You need the second in-note search to pinpoint the searched string in a pdf.

Since EN is still adding features to v10, they will hopefully close this gap one day as well.
