local file links still don't work

I have Evernote v 10.22.3-mac-mas-public (458792)
Editor: v132.1.16932
Service: v1.40.3
The recent release notes say:

• The app has improved link recognition in your notes. Now it'll automatically convert web URLs, phone numbers, and email addresses to clickable links; and links can also open local files and default apps like Zoom.  

I was pleasantly surprised that Evernote let me make the file link.  But, when I click on it, it doesn't work and nothing happens. Links are like this: file:///Users/username/myfolder/myspreadsheet.xlsx 

The logs say:

What is the expected behavior for file links?  I would expect them to open either the file or the enclosing folder.

The expected behavior IMHO is that the linked file should be opened.
