Unable to use Evernote on two devices?

Yesterday, when I installed Evernote I was of the impression that I could use EN on up to two devices without upgrading to a paid plan, so I installed it on my desktop and my laptop.  I had no problem working back and forth between devices.  

This morning however, all of that changed.  I went to log in on my laptop and got the shock of my life! (see attached screenshot)

It is like the rules changed overnight!

According to this memo, with the basic plan I am only allowed one device!  What the heck is up with that?

Hi.  It's no big deal - Evernote registered your laptop as a new device rather than the 'same' one you used yesterday.  Follow the unsync link and zap everything,  then start over.
