Cannot create new tags in iOS

When viewing a note on my iPhone, I cannot create a new tag to add to the note. I can only choose from the existing tags I've made, which is really inconvenient as I use Evernote on my phone a lot and often need to create new tags.

does work for me using EN V 10.8.2 on iPhone 12pro iOS 14.4.2

On my iPhone 6S it doesn't work, but does on an iPhone SE *shrugs* maybe it's just the older model phone?
