Search isn't recognizing handwriting

My search currently isn't bringing up any handwritten results.  Both on my Mac desktop version and also iOS.  Any ideas what might be the problem?

Just tested with a new note on my iPad   
No problem with search of handwriting

fwiw  The OCR and search are both server processes - not device dependent

I tested a note that I scanned 4 hours ago and Evernote for iOS is not recognizing my handwriting.
