Open images in default image viewer instead of in Evernote

I'm using Evernote 7.14 on macOS. In older versions (like before ~6.1?), images embedded in notes would open in Mac's native 'Preview' image viewer when double-clicked. This was great, since I often need to open many images in a row while reading through a note. Now they open within Evernote by default, hiding the note until EN's in-app preview is X'd out.

I know there is a workaround by right-clicking and doing "Open With", but this is sort of cumbersome. Is it possible to get an option to change the behavior for double-clicked images (choosing which app they open with)?

On Windows if you set the default app for viewing that is was gets invoked when you double click.  Is there parallel function on the Mac?

Not as far as I can tell. If I right-click an image, I have the "Open With" option, and it says Preview is already the default (see screenshot). But double-clicking images always opens them within Evernote itself.
