GIF automatically converted to PNG when pasted from clipboard

I can insert GIF files using drag and drop, but copying the same file to the system clipboard and then pasting the file causes the image to be converted to PNG. Is anyone else having this problem?

Same problem here but it was a pdf converted to a png when pasted to evernote.
