Tool for drawing sketches

Rinma

Idea

One of the biggest features I miss in Evernote is the possibility to draw sketches/images. Simple things like squares or circles.

Things the drawing tool should include:
- Freehand drawing
- Simple geometric forms (box, square, triangle, circle, ...)
- Some forms that are useful to describe things (arrows, lines, dotted lines, ...)
- Predefined colors and custom color for drawing
- Drawings should be an single entity and not part of the complete note (maybe export of only sketch as png)
- Group the drawings and the text in the note so that they can be moved or removed easily
- Reopen drawings to edit them again

Good notes are very visual and not only text, but I don't want to draw them on a piece of paper and upload them as an image. Also, could a tool like this, help to make a nicer and better understandable of a hand-drawn sketch because the text would be readable and the lines straighter. Text that is not part of the drawing should be able to flow left or right from the sketch with a padding.

It should work on all devices and not only touch based ones.

Maybe easiest solution: Draw.io integration
Would be an external tool that can be used everywhere. Impact on Evernote would be minimal (I think 😕 ).
Open sketches in draw.io and show them as image in the notes.

As noted, the Evernote editor/format is basically text based.

I prefer using external editors like Notability on my iPad
I store the document in Evernote in both pdf and native format

One giant bloated app?

There's also the point that dedicated apps provide more features.  Have you tried  Evernote's sketch feature?

Yes as you mentioned: iPad. That is not a solution for everyone. If I want to modify my notes on my Mac I could use this app, on my Android devices this app and on my windows device this app. But most the time you don't find an useful app that works on all devices and even then you would need to redo the sketch for each device and app.

I prefer to use a single solution for my notes instead of switching between apps all the time. Also, you need always the external tool and the original files to modify your sketch and upload them again.

Evernote is only text based at the moment but this could be changed :D

It should not solve all problems. It should solve basic problems. If you need more then that an external tool would be better.

Evernote is still an app for taking notes and sometimes you can save a lot of text with a simple drawing. You can make things more clear and easier to understand. The main problem is that you can't find good solutions on every device. It would make collaboration easier because not everyone needs an external app.
