Gmail has this - it shows as a T with a small X and it is very useful. All formatting etc which are there in the original just disappear (eg double line spacing). Link to comment

Try Ctrl+Shift+space to remove formatting or Ctrl+space to simplify formatting. Ctrl+Z to undo if you don't like the result. Also available from Format menu. Link to comment

We always copy-past stuff from the web, and without a formatting option I need to use another app like Byword to clean all formatting. Pure nightmare in moment doing it a lot. Link to comment
