Scanner won't work

Please help...  My scanner has seemed to stop working.  Green light is on. When I place the paper in the scanner the green light flashes and few times with no other response.  This scanner has worked fine for years. I have tried the following:

1) powered off scanner by removing power cord.

2) Rebooted MAC.  

3) I have confirmed all software and drivers are up to date.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you post the brand and model, we could direct you to the company supporting the product.  They may even have a forum for user support.

On the computer side, is there alternate software you can use to test the scanner.
For example. System Preferences > Printers and Scanners
