  1. User Experience pro here... (My license plate actually used to be UI GEEK.) Agreed, not a dangerous issue, data-wise, and not difficult to fix, technically, but from my/the user's perspective it's a problem. I have to keep expanding and collapsing things so I can access my stacks, folders, and tags. Or I have to run the app at only 3/4 of the screen height on my vertical monitor (where it lives). I have vertical monitors so I can see more of my content at once, and now I can't take advantage of that, plus I have the visual clutter of seeing whatever's on the rest of the screen behind it. It's a constant annoyance throughout the day and (I would hope) should be trivial to fix. It worked fine until recently, so it's not like I am / we are asking for some complex new feature.
  2. Oh, man... @Kathleen You're right where I've been thinking of heading — in Notion after 10+ years on Evernote. Like hearing from Future-Me. Have you been able to get back to Evernote? I'd love to hear about your Notion experience. (Or anyone else's.) What have been the deal killers for you? What did you like about it? (If you'd like, message me, and we could arrange a call, even.) So far I've only tried to import one Notebook, as an experiment, from Evernote to Notion. It went well enough, but ... It looks like I'd need to repeat that process a couple-hundred times, because Notion can only handle importing in small chunks (AFAIK, so far). It stripped out almost all of my formatting, and I rely heavily on formatting to make my notes easy to scan and read. From what I can tell, I can't even manually reformat things - not that I'd want to reformat 10 years of notes. I've also read (but haven't dug into the details) some not-ready-for-prime-time things, like Notion doesn't have redundancy in case their servers go down - or something like that, which either sounded unlikely, or irresponsible. But again, I've only begun to look into it. What I read may have been dead wrong, or outdated. So I'm not sold on Notion yet, although I'm really intrigued by the flexibility of it. I can think of dozens of things I could use it for (writing, CMS, family history notes+connections, planning, habit tracking, etc.) But I hadn't given any thought to "what if I need to leave it," which seems like it could be a disaster.
  3. That's what I meant. Bending Spoons seems to have created only mobile apps - and for photos and videos at that. Now they are taking on Evernote, which is something really different for them. I've been part of a company that was sold to a bigger company who had stars in their eyes, but had no expertise in our area. I may have a little lingering trauma from how that turned out. Basically, they fired or alienated all our key people, then couldn't figure out what to do with our product, and shelved it. At least we had the sense to insist on cash for the business, not options or some other silliness. Still, sad to see years of really excellent work just wasted.
  4. Ah... Yup. Thanks for the tip. More info: https://evernote.com/blog/moving-the-evernote-center-of-operations-to-europe More background: https://www.prweb.com/releases/bending_spoons_to_acquire_renowned_productivity_app_evernote_to_enhance_suite_of_consumer_facing_digital_products/prweb19024575.htm Bending Spoons looks really good on Glassdoor, so that's encouraging. Evernote seems really far from their core business to date (phone apps), though. Crossing my fingers, and reading up on Notion just in case.
  5. Good idea! It couldn't hurt to try. I submitted it as a "Technical Issue," and for the topic I selected "Other." I forget how I got there, but here's a direct link to submit a support request: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Expect that you will get a helpful (+/-) boilerplate email in return asking you to check your Internet connection 🤦‍♀️, sign out and back in, and make sure your software is up to date. (Under Help > About Evernote) They will want to know the platform, and will request that you sent an activity log. (Under Help > Activity Log). Thanks! And good luck!
  6. I get that. I responded to the first request with everything they asked for - Internet speed, version number, activity log, etc., plus a lot more details. It took me over an hour to do a proper bug report (I used to be a software developer), with every bit of info I could think of that might help them sort it out. Didn't hear anything for days, and then out of the blue another request for all the information I'd already submitted, and more suggestions to browse the Help system. Uggh. I've offered to demo the problem via Quick Assist. Heck, I could have dropped by and demoed it for them in less time than it took me to test and report it. Do you know if they are outsourcing support, or changing support contractors? This kind of disruption shouldn't be necessary just for growing the team.
  7. Ooh! Right you are! Thanks! I did a little resizing to what happened, stretching the window across three monitors, and indeed, a horizontal aspect ratio doesn't bring back the rest of the sidebar. It appears that things start falling apart as the window gets taller than about 1390 pixels. I will edit this post accordingly, and will update my Support request/bug report. It wouldn't be *so* bad (but still unacceptable) if it worked properly within the space it occupies, but the things at the bottom become inaccessible, which is not cool.
  8. Right? Would it be so hard to provide a "Light Sidebar" checkbox? Sigh... [Also, I wish they wouldn't limit "reactions" on this board. I've used mine up, so couldn't simple "like" your reply.]
  9. An easy fix, I'd hope, but apparently not at the top of anyone's list: The sidebar is black while in Light mode, still. I was finally forced into upgrading (in September), and found the shiny new version has a black sidebar. Selecting "Light" mode doesn't fix it. I submitted a question to Support on September 28th: It appears that the only option for the background under the Notebooks/Notes sidebar is black, even in Light mode. Why...? 😞 Am I missing something? I never want a black background under text - it's so harsh on the eyes - but I can't see any way to change it. Hoping there's a workaround, or an update coming soon. And... Just to clarify, it used to be white. Now, in Dark Mode it’s black, which is fine. But in Light Mode it’s also black. That’s the issue. The response I got was vaguely encouraging, but the issue hasn't been fixed yet: "Thank you for your clarification and for the feedback. I must agree that it should be in white when it is in Light Mode. Please be assured that we are continuously striving to improve our services and provide the best possible experience for all our users."
  10. I'm having the same problem, and only see it when the window is in a vertical aspect ratio (like on my vertical monitor). When I change the aspect ratio to horizontal the problem disappears. Maximized or not - same behavior. I started seeing this issue in 10.65.3. I almost always have Evernote open on my left-most vertical monitor, so I noticed it right after the update.
  11. I have reported it, but so far have only received a boilerplate response asking for information I already submitted, and an invitation to visit the Help and Learning site. *headdesk* I just created my own post because I didn't find this one first in my search for "sidebar." (D'oh!) You can find my very detailed report (essentially what I submitted to Support) here: https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/148764-sidebar-partially-hidden-in-vertical-window-10653-10663/
  12. I am also seeing this. Uggh. I just now reported it here: https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/148764-sidebar-partially-hidden-in-vertical-window-10653-10663/ I missed seeing your post first because I searched for "sidebar" before posting my own report.
  13. Summary A black area covers the bottom one-third (approximately - it varies) of the sidebar, so I can't access anything I would normally see near the bottom on the screen. This happens when the Evernote app window is taller than about 1390 pixels (like on a vertical monitor or large monitor). [UPDATE: I originally reported this as being an issue with a vertical/portrait aspect ratio, but it's not that, it's just the height, regardless of aspect ratio. Thank you to @PinkElephant for providing that info in a reply below! I've edited this post to reflect the actual behavior.] [I am trying to report this, but Support (currently in chaos, apparently) is missing the point (that I'm reporting a bug, not asking a question) and keeps trying to refer me to "Help and Learning." 🤦‍♀️] Platform Windows 10 Evernote Versions Current version: 10.66.3-win-ddl-public (20231107150540) Editor: v176.27.0 Service: v1.78.1 Issue began with 10.65.3, 9 Nov. Still happening on 10.66.3, 10 Nov. Activity Log - submitted to Evernote, but not sharing here. Occurs when ... ⚠ Window is taller than about 1390px, regardless of width, with the window maximized or not, in the Evernote app only 🆗 NOT when the window is shorter than that. 🆗 NOT in the browser (Chrome, up to date) Internet Speed 👍 349.56 DOWNLOAD Mbps 👍 30.29 UPLOAD Mbps Attempted: ✔ Closed and reopened app ✔ Shut down and restarted computer ✔ Signed out of Evernote and back in Issue Details The content in the sidebar is cut off before reaching the bottom (see screenshots, below). The sidebar scroll bar hits the bottom before I can scroll down far enough to see all of my Stacks, Notebooks, or Tags (see screenshots, below). . An empty black area occupies the bottom of the sidebar (see screenshots, below ). The height of the black area is proportional to the height of the window - as the window gets taller, the black area covers more of the sidebar content. ⚠ The end of my ability to scroll is relative to the bottom of the sidebar content, not to however much content there is at the top. It appears it may be simply that the black area is covering the remaining sidebar content. Steps to replicate: 1. Use an account with a lot of Stacks, Notebooks, and Tags. You will not see it if there aren't enough to go to the bottom of a tall window or beyond. 2. Size the window to be shorter than 1390px (such as on a 1920x1080 horizontal monitor), where it works normally. 3. Try expanding various things: several large Stacks of Notebooks, or the Tags section. 4. Resize the window to be taller than 1390px (such as on a 1080x1920 vertical monitor). 5. You should see the content at the bottom of the scrollbar starts vanishing, getting blocked/covered by a black area at the bottom of the sidebar. 6. Note that as the window gets taller a black area also gets taller. 7. The scrollbar will hit the bottom (unable to scroll further) before you can access all of your Stacks, Notebooks, or Tags or see Shared with Me or Trash Workaround (kinda...) Shrink the height of the window. Now the sidebar should work correctly. Expand the Tags section. Create 20-30 bogus tags that will appear at the bottom of the Tags listing, like z01, z02, z03, etc. These will now be the things that are hidden, so you can see your actual tags above them. Note: You still won't be able to access Shared with Me or Trash Screenshot Note the black area at the bottom of the sidebar (maximized window, 1920x1080)
  14. Thank you for this thread. [UPDATE: I have created a much more detailed report on this issue here (and also submitted it to Support): https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/148764-sidebar-partially-hidden-in-vertical-window-10653-10663/ ] Version 10.65.3, which was automatically installed today (9 November, 2023), broke the sidebar on my vertical monitors (1920x1080) in the Windows app, on Windows 10. The sidebar acts as if it's on a shorter display, and cuts off about 3/4 of the way down the screen, leaving a large black block at the bottom. The sidebar behaves normally otherwise. I can scroll down to see more, but the sidebar ends well above the bottom of the display. This is a new issue - it was working fine before the update. Relaunching the app did not help. Shutting down and restarting the computer did not help. It still works normally in the Web interface. Should I open a support ticket or file a bug report on this? And if so, where? I've so far failed to find a way to contact Support.
