Evernote (up to 10.6) used an embedded web view to open links. This greatly reduced testing. Now Evernote is going to get bug reports everytime any browser can't open a link 😕

Fortunately Evernote for Android is already so much better than the old app and updates are coming out really quickly :)

I don't think it's a browser issue. on android you can edit the link in the note. Copy the URL and then go paste it into a new browser tab on any browser and it works just fine. But if you tap the link in the note, you get an invalid character error message.

@Calvin.Powers I get the same result as you:

Evernote v10.5.1 can't even handle properly web links (it opens them inside Evernote), so I'm not surprised here with G Docs links.
Even if I paste this same G Sheets web link inside Evernote for Android note it gets integrated properly (same as Windows client), but when I click on it I get the same error (invalid URL/character).
Evernote v10 is a mess on Android.

Thanks for checking. Tech support is supposedly unable to recreate the problem. So it's nice to know at least one other person has seen the issue and I am not going crazy.

Same problem for me with Android 10.4 (1109602) on an Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 (MIUI 12.0.2). Clicking on most URLs results in an empty screen with a green "Fertig" (German for "Done") in the upper right corner.

A variant of this I see when clicking on more complex URLs (for example links to Google Drive), which results in a popup "Ungültige URL. Ungültiges Zeichen" (German for "Invalid URL. Invalid character", maybe it does not like the "/edit#gid=0" at the end of the URL?

For me this makes the Android app mostly unusable, since nearly all my notes contain some URLs, which no longer can be opened.

I'm on version 10.5 of the android app and I get this invalid URL / invalid character sometimes. I see it most often on google spreadsheet URLs.  I started a separate thread for this issue. here:

If you could take a minute and help us recreate that problem at the post on that thread I would appreciate it.

  4. Need help from some community folks to recreate a problem. Should only take about 2 minutes:

Here's a link to a google docs spreadsheet and it is publicly accessible so you can use it for your own tests.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LiOaeFhgrph9Kyjlzm73sZCT8emAgN6J5Bax3gOox3A/edit#gid=0

On the windows client, I pasted that URL into a new note and hit return. Evernote correctly recognized it as a Google doc and converted it into that gray box with the name of the google document and the google sheets logo. No problem.

I also selected some text in the note called "test link" and pressed ctrl-K. A pop up dialog opened and I pasted the link in and saved it.

On the Windows client, I can click either the grey box or the linked text with the mouse and my system's default browser (chrome) is launched and the google sheet is opened. No problem.

But on my Android client if I tap either, I get an "invalid URL / invalid character" error message.

I am on android version 10.5.1 (1110183) which I believe is the latest version.

Evernote tech support tells me "Yes, the issue was tested on our end and it was not encountered. "

So I am curious if it's just me or if anyone else can recreate this problem.

Can someone else try to follow the steps above and report back here if they get the same error message? It would be very helpful to know if it's something specific to my instance of the Android app or not.

    Thanks

  5. According to the keyboard shortcuts documentation, pressing ctrl-1-9 will take you to the corresponding shortcut. On my Windows Evernote app. Ctrl-7 does not open the seventh shortcut. I have verified that it does not matter which shortcut is the seventh. In other words, if the shortcut is the 6th shortcut I can open it with ctrl-6 no problem. But if the same shortcut is the seventh, ctrl-7 will not open it.

As far as I know, there is nothing else on my WIndows system that would be stealing the ctrl-7 keypress but at the same time, I find it hard to believe that ctrl-7 would not work when all of the other ctrl-x keys work.

Can someone else try to recreate this problem and report back here? All you have to do is have seven shortcuts defined and stry to go to the seventh one by pressing ctrl-7.

I'm getting the self-same nag messages, and I am also using a legacy "Plus" account - You can hide the messages, and they pop back after a week or so - I totally expect nag messages on free software, however on a service I'm paying for, not so. I appreciate I'm getting a grandfathered subscription rate, however as a (very) long term subscriber, I'd expect a little grace and respect to not be nagged for something I've paid for since the launch of Evernote - I love Evernote, however these little flaws and regular lapses in quality and features triggers me to search for "Alternatives to Evernote" ever few months or so.

It would be good for Evernote to give us the option, as paying customers to switch these suggested upgrade prompts off, permanently - I know what I'm "missing" from my subscription, and once that killer "add" comes to Premium, as opposed to features I once enjoyed in Plus eroded into the Premium tier, then you will earn my increased revenue stream, and until then, let us kill these annoyances off, once and for all, please & thank you!

Exactly. And I can even tolerate _some_ amount of nagging in other parts of the app, lik eon the account page. What crosses the line for me is seeing the nagware while I am woring on a note. That's when I am trying to focus on my work and seeing the nagware while I am working on a note interrupts my productivity and takes me out of my flow. Eernote always makes a big deal about understanding work productivity more than other note taking apps like OneNote. But they are not living up to that.

And that's the last I am going to say on this issue. I have downloaded a trial version of One Note. I am skeptical of it from what I see on thei product web site. But at this point I figure I'm going to at least kick the tires on it. But I can't hardly imagine leaving Evernote. I have invested so much time and effort developing my eorkflow around Evernote that it would be tough to imagine leaving. But if OneNote can give me an ad-free experience for the same price. I might have to.

It is not in the note, it is just showing up while using the client.

You can like it or not, but this is probably company policy to remind users that are not on a regular paid plan to consider upgrading. It may be regarded as a nuisance by one, a real PITA by others - I personally doubt that this marketing strategy will lead EN anywhere. But anyhow, it is their show when we use any piece of software they provide, so probably the best one can do is plain ignore this type of messages.

But I AM on a paid account. I should not have to see nagware if I am on a paying account. And the thing is, I don't mind the nagware when I'm navigating through menus or viewing my account apge. etc etc. But when I am trying to focus on work while working in an evenote, having to see distracting spam is crossing the line. Evernote of all companies should understand that. They were the first to really understand how to create a tool that helps you focus on work. And they are ruining it imho opinion by putting ads in the actual note.

And what Evernote needs to realize is that while they are the first, and arguably the best  for this type of tool, they are no longer the only viabble players in this market.

I doubt this is embedded in your note; it's a display item

Agreed, as a paying user,  I don't want to be subject to nag spam.

Yeah, it's more like an ad attached to the frame of the window. But nonetheless, It is a distraction while i am trying to focus on my work project. And yeah I can click hide, but it is still a distraction I don't appreciate and Evenote is always saying that they are a productivity tool and they emphasize that they are the best for productivity.

I can deal with the ads and nagware in the UI of the menu etc. But seeing an ad while I am focused on work in a note is crossing the line for me.

  9. This morning I was busy working in Evernote. I have a note for each project I am working on, with checklists, notes, embeds, the whole nine yards. But I noticed some Evernote ***** at the bottom of the note that I could not delete. See the attached screenshot.

IT LOOKS LIKE EVERNOTE HAS EMBEDDED A SPAM ADVERTISEMENT IN MY NOTE AND I CANNOT DELETE IT.

This is NOT COOL. I will not tolerate Evernote distracting me with spam ads within a note while I am trying to focus on my work.

I have been a loyal paying customer for years and never once have I considered leaving Evernote for one of the many emerging competitors. But if Evernote does not remove these spammy ads from my notes AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I will start looking for a new place to do my work. Probably One Note.

Will someone from Evernote please let me know when these spam ads will be removed from my notes?

  10. Greetings,

I've recently run into a problem using Evernote that is starting to feel like a bug. Or maybe I am having a false memory. lol. In either case I need help!

I make heavy use of reminders and I like to work on my notes in the order of the reminders.

In the past, at least I remember it this way, I could click a reminder in the reminder list and the note would appear in the note panel and i could update it etc. Then I'd update the reminder date. And my recollection is that the note list would still be showing the reminders and the reminder would be moved down to the appropriate spot in the reminder list. But the focus would still be on the reminders which made it easy to click on the next note in the reminder list.

But something changed recently. Now when I click a reminder in the reminder list. The note shows up in the note panel, as expected. But the note list scrolls down to the note's entry in the note list which pushes the reminders up and out of view.  That means after I am done editing the note I have to scroll back to the top of the list to get to the reminders list again. It doesn't sound lie much but it really slows down my work flow.

In the Options window I see there is an option labeled "Scroll left panel item in to view when the item is selected" That sounds like exactly the behavior that I am seeing.

Here's the problem. I have that item unchecked. But it is behaving as if it is checked. I have checked that box on and off a dozen times and I see no change in behavior at all. Evernote acts like that is always checked even if it is not. I even uninstalled and resinstalled Evernote, hoping that would clear things up.

    Is this a known bug?

I am on windows 10 using Evernote version  6.22.3.8816 (308816) Public (CE Build ce-62.6.10954).

And while I'm at it, I'd like to suggest that in the note list options where you can select how the note lists are sorted, it would be nice to have an option that lets you keep the notes sorted in the order of their reminders

It would also be nice to have a short cut key to take you to the top of the note list or take you directly to the reminders list.

    Thanks

My work-around is to save my searches elsewhere
Like in a Saved Searches Note; for example   reminderOrder:* -reminderTime:day+1 -reminderDoneTime:*

It does require select copy/paste to put the text into the search box
Other users have implemented scripts to automate this

Yeah, I could do that. Probably will, for now at least. But that raises another irritation for me, which is you can't create a link that represents a saved search.

Evernote is so good, but so frustrating sometimes.  This issue will, for the first time, lead me to investigate other note taking apps. It's that much of an issue for me.

This is exactly why I don't use Google assistant. I find it counterintuitive and way more interested in giving me Google-junk than in assisting me.

My motto: If anything is broken, blame Google.

But be aware that Evernote has its own quick note feature, available on the pull-down screen. If you're using a keyboard that accepts voice input, you can fairly quickly create voiced notes in Evernote. But not hands free, as Google Assistant would be if it actually worked.

Right. I have this set up I also have a quick note widget on my home screen. So its one click to open the widget (or swipe from top and click evernote quick note) . then one click on the microphone on the keyboard. Not bad. But you have to take your eyes off the road while driving. But this is what I am currently doing.

I wish Evernote would give us some sense of whether or not they are going to "fix" thins. I put fix in quotes because I am 99.999% sure that google took away the ability specifically to cut evernote out in favor of their crappy note taking functions. (Can you say "restraint of trade"?)   So it's not Evernote's "bug." Nonetheless, the ball is in their court to come up with a way for use to create evernotes by voice.

  13. ACK! Feeling Very Frustrated Right Now.

I've just spent two solid days organizing my whole life in Evernote. I mean everything I've got going on in every corner of my life to logging my exercise regimen to washing the dishes to saving for retirement.

But this morning as I was finishing up. BAM. I got an error message saying that I am limited to 100 saved searches! Argh! I make heavy use of saved searches and now I've hit a brick wall.

I can't do what I want to do because of an apparently arbitrary limitation in Evernote.

Please please please let us have as many saved searches as we want.

Also, while I'm at it. It would be nice if we could arrange the saved searches in a folder hierarchy in the saved searches section of the left side panel.

  14. Greeting all.

Long time EN user on Mac. Currently migrating my entire life to Windows 10. So learning to use EN on Windows 10.

I am unable to select multiple notes in the note list of EN.

I understand from reading above that I should be able to use ctrl-left click to select multiple notes or use shift-lift click to select a series.  I con do these things in windows explorer with files no problem. So it's not a matter of not knowing how to do the clicks.

But no matter what I do in EN, I can only select one note at a time.

The one exception is that I can do a ctrl-A to select all notes in the list. But that's not what I need to do.

Very frustrating? Anyone have any guidance on how to figure out what's wrong?

    I am on version:

    6.19.2.8555 (308555) Public (CE Build ce-62.3.7750)

  15. Update: I was mistaken. This did NOT work for me. The Assistant acted like it was saving the note into Evernote. It even showed me the evernote logo in the assistant window. But the notes were NOT stored in Evernote. They were stored in Google Assistant.

Next step for me is to uninstall the assistant. It's unclear to me if you need Google Assistant in order for the "ok google" to work. But I'll find out soon.

@John in Michigan USA Ah! "Create a note in evernote" worked for me this morning. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I did as three steps

    1 "OK google"

    wait for ding

2 "Create a note in evernote"

    "sure what's the note"

    3. "test test test"

    "Ok saving note."

I'm going to try it a few days before declaring victory, but that seems to be the phrase that pays.

    Thanks

    Calvin
