  1. It is pretty laughable just how much of a joke the evernote development team have become in general... but unfortunately anyone who has any experience in software know this is an easily solvable problem. Even evernotes competitors advertise this feature as a selling point of switching to them. But this was never a technical issue it was always a matter of ego, evernote dont think this feature is needed and 14 years of messages have done nothing to change their mind. They love tags, everyone should accept that despite the rest of the world using a hierarchical structure evernote knows better, its sad but true...
  2. Sigh what did I expect... You are right, I am wrong, I know nothing, you know everything, god I am glad I no longer depend on this product, its such a joke that this even needs to be discussed in 2022...
  3. 12 years since this post was started, 12 years of people wasting their time commenting on this board expecting something to change, it hasn't... it won't its just an exercise in futility. Its long past due and long past ignored by evernote
  4. Is it not about time to permanently close this thread? And considering the sheer amount of messages from customers can we not just have an official statement from Evernote telling customers this will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER be implemented. This has gone on way too long and I feel bad for people still waiting for this feature to come some day. It wont ever come, Evernote does not want to build it and its pretty clear they want everyone to use tags, regardless of whether they are useful to the customer. I gave up on Evernote for everything but scanning documents after waiting for this for several years, after using Nimbus Note for a while I don't regret the move. Evernote doesn't really have any killer features anymore and its very easy to transfer all your existing notes to another app. It comes down to this plain fact... Use Tags or Leave Evernote, its your only two options...
  5. There is no such thing as cant in software development just EGO and LAZINESS. I think we can guess which one is being used in these forums...
  6. This feature request was made in 2008, its not going to happen, move to an alternative package, and migrate all of your existing notes, I had to...
  7. As much as I would like things to be different, your words are the only outcome. Evernote will never, ever implement this feature. Its been 12 years since this thread has started, trust me this has been discussed probably more than once by the Evernote development team. Tags don't work for me, for many reasons already highlighted in this thread so I won't discuss them again here. I left Evernote because of this missing feature and imported all of my notes into Nimbus Note, if you need this feature then its time consider another app. As this feature will NEVER be implemented in Evernote Ever!
  8. if right takes 12 years+ to be implemented I would more than happy with a quick fix....
  9. Why does everyone seem to think this is such a huge Developement job, it really isnt, it is insanely simple to add a 3rd or 4th tier to stacks. This job has never been implemented because they want people to use tags, regardless of whether tags are actually useful to the end user.
  10. The problem with Evernote as a company has always been the "you are just wrong" we dont care. Many, many, many people have wasted so much time trying to get Evernote to listen, but the harsh reality is they simply dont care about user feedback. Take it from someone who has been active on the en boards for almost 10 years, if you need this feature look at migrating your notes to another company like Nimbus Note, as this feature will NEVER be implemented EVER!
  11. I stuck with Evernote for almost 3 years waiting for this to arrive, then I found Nimbus Note imported everything from Evernote and switched over. Annoyingly I still have to use Evernote as I have an Evernote scanner but cancelled my premium account. This thread was started well over 10 years ago now, this is just never going to happen, I feel sorry for everyone who has stressed their frustration and the response on the forums has always been the same. You are wrong you don't need subfolders, tags is amazing, its so sad when a company lectures their customers instead of actually listening. I had an issue with Nimbus a while back, emailed them and got a response back straight from the development team, was fixed a few weeks later services just does note compare with Evernote!!!
  12. Its a case of evernote telling customers what it thinks is best rather than listening to customers, probably why they have had so much financial trouble in the past. If it helps I ended up moving to nimbus note (which has unlimited folder depth), its not as well polished as evernote but you can actually email the developers directly and participate in its development which is definitely the right direction. If only evernote was the same way 😞
  13. This is never going to change if you need this feature like I do, use Nimbus Note instead and import your evernote docs to that instead. This is never going to be implemented so its important people arriving at this thread are made aware of this.
  14. I still feel bad that people come to this post expecting things to change, they won't but there is a solution mov to something that works for you. For me I moved to Nimbus Note and exported all my existing notes over to their app. I ended up using them because they publish all their development for every user to see, and you can contact them directly and contribute towards their future development. Are they as big as Evernote, no. And their app is a little rough around the edges but they support both unlimited notebook levels and tags, so win-win for me. I hope this helps other people who come here looking for answers because you won't get anything useful posting here, this post is almost 10 years old...
  15. Unfortunately all you get in this forum are fan boys, they are right we are wrong, thats Evernote in a nutshell. I left en for nimbus note a long while ago but unfortunately still have to use en for all my scanned documents. Trust me its not worth wasting your breath here, no one at en cares...
  16. I had to move to Nimbus Note to get this feature, its an evernote clone built purely based on user feedback and feature requests, wish evernote was built the same way 😞
  17. this is exactly what I have been waiting for... an evernote clone that actually listens to user feedback... finally I can leave this crappy company behind :-)
  18. Hi Guys just wanted to weigh in here and cover the discussion up to this point. From a implementation perspective I have literally written a full programatic solution that would allow this feature to be implemented with full backwards compatibility for existing clients. From a development standpoint this feature is probably the most simple feature you could possibly add to evernote, much less complex than the tag system. What is interesting here is the amount of passion and time people have spent on this thread pleading with evernote on this issue, its substantial. And its a real shame to say this but evernote don't really care, its a big company we are a small majority of users and our voices just don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Bare in mind not long ago evernote was in financial difficulty and I not even sure at this point the company is making significant profit. In my opinion and feel free to disagree evernote could be amazing but it wont ever be as good as word, google docs, sharepoint... it could be but evernote have decided they want to keep this piece of software limited. There are so many great features in this forum that would bring massive revenue from the b2b sector but it will always be a limited software package. Ok but not great, its a shame but I think its time this thread gets closed because people are just wasting there time posting here.
  19. The problem is that the Evernote team don't see the significant limitations of a tag based hierarchy system. While tags are useful in certain circumstances they are significantly flawed in others. As a power user I find Evernote too restrictive to my needs as do pretty much every organisation that I have worked with. But try as we might things are not going to change, look when this thread was opened...
  20. I notice the people still keep stumbling on this thread hoping things will change, they won't! The decision was made years ago, and we are unfortunately just wasting our breath. Its incredibly frustrating but its not going to change, ever!
  21. Just so you know there is a very simple way to implement this regardless of how the backend architecture of evernote was built, and would not effect backwards compatibility and would work easily across all platforms. Create virtually nested stacks Stack 1 -- Stack 2 -- -- Stack 3 is stored in the backend as a single stack with the string: Stack1 :: Stack 2 :: Stack 3 older clients simply see this instead of nested stacks, and the newer clients see the stacks in a nested view Its really not as hard as evernote seem to think it is...
  22. I think its clear at this point that someone within the Evernote organisation has simply refused to add this feature a long time ago and now its blacklisted. I am a developer and unfortunately this is very common in the industry logic goes out the window and pride comes into play. There is only 1 way that this feature will ever get implemented in Evernote, if it effects their revenue streams... I am not advocating this as I love Evernote, but something as simple as a group of users refusing to renew their memberships until this feature is available would put pressure on the management, and thus would apply pressure to the development team. Unfortunately I also see this alot in my industry, its just a sad state of affairs when pride comes into the picture. I don't like tags, and I like stacks, give the customers what they want... it should really be that simple!
  23. Hi, I use indentation as a way of quickly navigation large evernote files, but tables will not indent with the rest of the content, can this be added? (see attached screenshot)
