  1. Keep in mind, too, that there's no reason to keep receipts for longer than 10 years, and that's only for mortgage payments for your house. Most other receipts can be destroyed or recycled after 2/3 years, or at most 7 (for anything the IRS might want to see). I find it difficult to believe that you would really need to keep thousands of receipts for long enough to make your database grow to this size. Consider purging your oldest and no-longer-needed receipts to save space.
