Hmmn.  Maybe I just never used the feature when it was available.  As @Guilherme Caldeira and Matt pointed out,  the Google option works fine - because the file exists separately on a Google server,  and can be opened and closed where it is.  Your edits are performed on the actual file on the server,  rather than on a copy.  All you have in the note is a link to the original file,  which stays the same no matter how many changes are made.

A file attached to an Evernote note however,  is part of the main account database stored on the server.  A note on a mobile only contains the database address at which the file is stored.  To edit the attached file,  a copy has to be downloaded to the device,  edited in an app and then re-uploaded and inserted into the database.  I'm explaining this badly,  but there are two different operations involved here.

Neither of the two answers above explicitly says 'this used to be a feature but we took it away' and I suspect that the guys involved are being cautious because they don't actually know whether,  when or why this happened either...

The basic fact though is.  You currently can either use Annotate or Google to edit documents - or edit the file and re-attach it to the note.  Evernote are - apparently - looking into the possibility of re-saving files to their parent note at some point...

Actually, in the response from Anderson A. at evermote that i attached earlier he does explicitly say it was a feature that is no longer supported "After consulting with our Senior Advisors it appears that this support is no longer available in the Android version of Evernote"

  2. Not only did I send an email to evernote support but also chated with someone as well and this was the response and suggestion until it's fixed, if it ever is.  I have spent the last couple days looking at OneNote and really like what I have seen.  Unfortunately Evernote lost focus and got behind the innovation curve and perhaps with a new CEO they may find there way back but frankly I don't see how they can keep up with Microsoft that has been running full tilt as of late.

    Hi there,

Anderson here. Thanks again for chatting with me today.

After consulting with our Senior Advisors it appears that this support is no longer available in the Android version of Evernote

I definitely understand how this is a useful feature for Evernote and I am going to be submitting this a feature request on your behalf. We always appreciate feedback and feature suggestions from our users, so I will make sure that this information is passed along to our product team for their consideration in implementing in future versions of Evernote for Android.

Please let me know if you have any more questions or if you would like to submit additional feedback and I will be happy to help.

    All the best,

    Anderson

    Hello Dominic,

Thank you for contacting Evernote Support.

My name is Matt and I will be assisting you with this saving issue you are experiencing after editing your documents. This is something that the team is currently looking into right now.

In the meantime, the easiest workaround would be to upload the documents to Google Drive and to put them into your notes. Any change done with these documents will automatically be synced back to the Google servers.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,
    Matt W.

  3. Up until a yesterday I was able to open docx files in WPS Office make edits or annotations and save the file back to evernote.  Today, however, when I attempt to do this the message "Resource not changed" appears.  I reinstalled evernote, WPS office and restarted the device but no luck.  This along a a few other items makes it appear Evernote is getting tired and not being kept up.
