The trust has gone- and they are greedy for profits.......then again I don't trust microsoft or google.

I don’t agree personally, greedy for profits is different to sustainable. Evernote was not profitable - it needs to become so to survive. However raising prices will lose users - that’s inevitable, so they need to set those prices at a level that can compensate for the loss of users. They roughly doubled prices, if they lose 50% of users that’s same income with less resource costs.  I don’t know what the numbers are, there sure are a fair few announcing their departures, I don’t think we can claim this transition is banking them whack loads of cash tho. We’re likely years away from that possibility.

BearNotes and Apple Notes both offer the capability to search within PDFs and other types of documents, similar to Evernote. However, in comparison to Evernote, their organizational structure is less robust. Additionally, BearNotes and Apple Notes' web clippers are relatively basic in functionality.

After evaluating numerous alternative solutions, it appears that there is a scarcity of options (with the potential exception of DevonThink) that replicate the functionality that Evernote used to provide.

At present, I am adopting a wait-and-see approach, hoping to avoid any further data losses.

Depending on associated costs, I am inclined to continue using Evernote.

Nevertheless, I find myself in a constricted position, harboring reservations about the software's reliability.

The updates released by the company seem inadequately tested, leading to significant issues. It appears that the company may have taken on more than it can effectively manage, resulting in a situation where they are still finding their footing.

Given this context, it is incredible that they have opted to raise prices for software that is currently unreliable.

Good point re bear and apple notes - great for those fully Apple, less so for those who use more than one platform.  Personally a web app is a must for me so bear is out.

regarding quality of releases. I don’t know much tech wise but I think RTE exposed the coding somehow and caused all sorts of issues - I don’t think continuing to support legacy helps either. They seem to be getting on top of things now and are communicating way better - my apps (barring the glitch on Tuesday!) have been way more stable - especially the mobile ones.

I would be interested to know if anyone has found another app that searches embedded files like EN does.  I have Powerpoint, Excel, Word Docs, and Pdfs in my EN files.  When I do searches on EN, it also searches the content of all of those docs contained in the notes.  This is a feature that I have not been able to find in ANY other app.  Many will search only PDFs.  OneNote, only searches embedded PDFs and I believe the same it true of Notion.  Thoughts?

Nope, I’ve not come across any. For basic stuff things like obsidian or heck even notepad do the job - but when it’s more - ocr scanning for instance none get close. Neither does OneDrive which has woeful search and someone tested google drive v Evernote on Reddit for ocr - Evernote beat it too.

  4. Hi, I was doing some work on a note on a windows PC, I went to use my phone to send the material to a group on whatsapp (copy and paste).  Opened evernote on my phone, it syncs, I can see the text in the little highlight below the note before I open it, but when I open the note all the text is missing.  Tried opening and closing on phone didnt work, now the windows Evernote says syncing paused on the note.  Not sure whats going on.

Edit - syncing apparently is paused on all notes on the PC - tried restarting the app with no change.

Here's something about a positive experience of mine that I posted a couple weeks ago:

Yeah, I read that. It’s amazing what the app can do when used well and it sure seems you both got the benefits of good use. I’m trying to get into the discipline of scanning and sorting things, with two kids with autism and one who also has learning disabilities we have a LOT of paperwork and appointments we need to keep on top of. A data repository where I can save everything and action what’s needed will really benefit me if I get into the discipline.

  6. Hey figured it would be nice to actually chat about some of the things we appreciate about this app. Not doing an exhaustive list just listing something that in this moment I’m valuing -

text formatting - my goodness most notes apps can’t do this well at all. By this I mean, I copy text from an email into Evernote - formatting holds, links stay links, numbers are recognised, as is email - ie all the information is recognised and actionable. Try this in other apps - nope, it’s  a mess - links are lost etc.

and the same works the other way, draft an email - even with tables etc, copy text paste into email - bingo it’s all there in the correct font with formatting and tables etc correctly displayed. It seems a small thing but so many apps handle this really poorly. As I save emails and then add tasks, I often write emails to send out, this consistency is essential and EN simply wrecks the rest when it comes to this.

Wow so some of their self inflicted wounds are finally being resolved?  What a breakthrough!  App of the year for sure.

Dude - grow up. I’m assuming you an adult and if so your behaviour here is embarrassing. If for some reason you felt you needed attention from users of a notes app, I hope we scratched that itch. Either way - move on! It will be better for you, more productive than behaving like an agnsty teenager.

Well let's be honest that was an outright lie.  Don't say "it's gotten better" when EN has had probably the worst year of issues since launch.

You need to get a hobby lol.

    My experience differs vastly -
    Evernote is faster
    Tasks now work
    RTE is stable
for the first time in 10 sync works consistently for me - no data loss

Those are some of the experiences I’m having.

My sides 😂  The irony coming from somebody that has over 5000 posts on a support forum for the app.

The app started sucking when it was 1/3 the price.  I can't imagine how people justify the price hikes for this garbage.

If you hate the app, and seem to not use the app, why on earth are you here posting this kinda stuff? Use what works for you, but don’t be a grown adult trolling others because they prefer something else. Come on.

Whenever I try to setup 2FA I don’t get the QR setup option but only manually typing/pasting a key. After pasting & typing the key into a new account option on Authy and I try to put in the 6 digit code but it says incorrect code everytime

This is the exact same issue I had. The way I resolved it - use another device to set up the 2fa - an iPad or a laptop. Do the set up on that, scan the qr code it generates with your phones chosen Authenticator- will work first time. I don’t think those codes generated on the phone system are working correctly.

As a grass roots EN longterm PAYING customer I'm not really interested in his views.

He should come on here, admit EN is broken and tell us IF or WHEN it will be fixed.

Then reverse renewal fee increases for existing customers-.

60% of something is better than 100% of nothing- which is exactly what he and BS will be left with if they continue with this amateur unprofessional approach.

Many CUSTOMERS are watching and waiting- nobody is going to risk data by relying on software that is now broken- it is awaiting game- and people will only wait for so long.

Hasn’t he done exactly that on several occasions? When data was being lost during the transition to rte he was very open about the issues. The survey he recently posted admitted too there are issues. I haven’t seen anything that implies they are acting like the issues are not there, unless I’ve missed something.

No, not how to handle it. That's really not how you treat your customers. Frankly, I hope there is a clarification from your side on this.

I also feel personally addressed here because there are issues with the API, which were reported during the beta testing of the new sync. There was zero feedback from you, even after repeatedly asking for feedback (so why am I participating in such a program). In June the next issue was a fact, namely a failing integration between Readwise and Evernote. There too I got zero feedback from your side, until after 10 times or so asking for an update and x number of "follow-up" tickets I finally got a message (last week) that I should actually go to the third party with the message that "they should try some more retry" or something like that (and you guys were going to see if there was nothing to do on your side).

As a company, is it actually that hard to even give an overall picture of where you stand? I work in the software engineering sector and let's just say that we do communicate with our customers (even when things are going badly). Always taught that communication to the customer is of the utmost importance.

How did you get that from Federico? I think it was communication! He’s posted here many times, posted surveys, blogs even given us his email, and you’re taking issue with this?

Federico is factually correct - without communication the app WILL function, it doesn’t affect its functioning - bugs do. From that perspective communication is important but it is not essential.

OK Noted. If all else fails Bear2 imports ENEX files and makes all attachments searchable so I have a plan B if required. What I am NOT doing is jumping out of frying pan and into fire.

Yeah that’s the thing - all these apps look great on the surface but a bit of digging and there are concerns. The same is true with EN to be fair, but you hit it right - not from the frying pan to the fire. Bear looks great - their dev place is glacier but what they do, they do darn well. My issue with them is I work on windows and need a web app really, they have one ‘coming soon’ but that could be years away at best.

Good point tho - as long as we have the enex files we have a lot of options of places we could head to if things do go south here, I’m hoping that won’t happen though, Dave Edwards latest video was quite reassuring on how determined BS are to deal with the bugs and issues as a priority.

Yes, this is gaslighting. It's a limitation that was arbitrarily added recently. As I said, before if it a note was too big, it just wouldn't sync. Fine. Now, if a note is too big, you can't even edit it to decrease it's size to make it compliant. Also, my notes don't even load anymore. So I can't even "copy paste" them into a few smaller notes.

These are calculated moves to cripple the program in order to get more subscribers. And despite having a subscription for various stretches of time in the past, I'm never doing it again, as it seems their goal is to lock you in so you can never leave, customer goodwill be damned.

It is RIDICULOUS for a program to have the following design: You accidently made a note too large. Now you have to spend minutes/hours going through it and copying and pasting it into a new note to get below the size limit. Ridiculous. It wasn't a part of the program in 2013. It shouldn't be part of the program in 2023.

Check out how upset everyone is, not just me.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Evernote/top/?t=month

Also, you can see in real time how this program is dying.

    https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=evernote&hl=en

You think anyone is going out there recommending Evernote to anyone? Of course not. Everyone who isn't locked in is leaving. And those locked in would never recommend it to anyone else.

Goodness, gaslighting isn’t the issue here, frankly entitlement is. The limits to note sizes for free accounts have been there for years, this is nothing new. What’s new is the perspective that what other people pay for you should get for free. Come on, please be reasonable and realise this is a pretty odd position to try and take. The same rules that apply to us ought to apply to you as well.
