As I make changes to a note, while I am editing, the note "refreshes" and my edits are gone. Or I will get a warning saying that there is another version of this note. They are not technically conflicting notes since they are not in that notebook, but I am having duplicates of the same note.

Besides major issues of not having the confidence that my edits are there, it is very annoying to end up with duplicates of notes.

It also happens when I edit the title of a brand new note. I will type, hit tab to go to the body...all of a sudden the title is cut out, like it only accepted partial key strokes.

Are these happening to anyone else?

That sounds pretty bad, luckily I have only had one occasion of a conflict.
Have you submitted a support ticket for this?

You have now what is basically a responsive design. It will adapt to the device it is running on. This is similar to what web sites do when running on different devices. In fact it IS a web site in disguise. These web designs will look completely different (but using the same basic GUI features, like logos, fonts and colors) when opened on a PC or a phone. And it will never grab the last square inch possible, because it adapts to any device. This means compromising to cover it all.

Ridiculous font 16, wasting space ? OK, we had another thread in the forum where a user complained that font 16 was too SMALL for him. If you take the average of feedback, they probably got it just right.

For me there was not much changed from the version before, in terms of use of space. I like the new interface better (in general), and it is IMHO usable on all devices, from iPhone over iPad and MacBook Pro to my 32“ 4K. I think in v10 there are other issues to improve.

I am glad you have not noticed much difference which is why it may not seem as important to you personally, but it looks like you are an Apple user from your device list and the previous version was different to the windows version in many ways. I am primarily a windows user (I also have a Mac for development purposes so did have the previous EN on that too) and the differences in design and waste of space are huge, as an example the note list in Snippet view on the legacy version shows 11 notes on my screen, v10 in default view only fits 6 on screen! Responsive design does not account for large amounts of padding and oversized fonts, they can all be accounted for with decent design that actually adapts to screen size and display density.

Also in Windows, I have yet to find another app running the default font at 16, as an example of the size difference on my screen, on legacy 2 notes almost fit into the space of one on the new version. Both screenshots take with the apps running in default view.

I appreciate there are other things that need addressing as well but for some users this is a big deal.

  3. I have ben banging this drum since the preview version took part in, the entire UI is shockingly oversized and there is lots of wasted space and padding added to everything, on top of the ridiculous default 16 font size. There has been no feedback from staff on this whenever raised before. Even the top of the app:image.thumb.png.b13ff9d173408a3dc46916aa7966252d.png
Granted some notebook names could be a bit longer but still!

I personally use the interface zoomed out two places just to account for the oversized text everywhere.

  4. Just wanted to share this as an example of how simple this could be, Nimbus Note have a public roadmap:

Nimbus Roadmap - Nimbus Note (nimbusweb.me)

It doesn't have any dates or expected ship times but at least it gives users a sense of what they are working on and what is to come.
This was my initial wish in this post that EN did something similar just to give the users some general idea of what is happening as the lack of communication is what is causing a lot of unrest in the community I feel.

    Hi all,

I notified EN about this problem in the "Possible bugs" forum and was referred to this thread. But alas, no solution here either. The workaround suggested by Mike P (to drag and drop a windows shortcut into the note) is not optimal because it requires generating (and then deleting) a shortcut link to each file I want to hyperlink to.

What is so difficult about restoring the old functionality of pasting a syntactically correct link - it even works without problems even in this forum window:  file:///S:/Literatur/reprints/T-Z/Thauer_et_al_2008.pdf

The local hyperlinks are essential for my workflow. I am presently back to the legacy version, waiting for this to be resolved. Otherwise, I have to switch to a competitor that allows local hyperlinks. Most of them do...

    Have a good day,

    Andreas

Have you tried the work around suggested here?

I appreciate that you took the time and effort to put this together and keep it updated, but I’m pessimistic that it drives any action or changes on their end. How they determine priorities seems to defy logic, at least to me.

As I mentioned previously that was never the intention, I was actually annoyed with the lack of communication from EN on features etc so this was more of a reference for forum users, especially where work arounds or answers were found by other users.

Like you I have no idea how they determine anything, and to be completely honest following an interview Ian Small did where he pretty much said the forum users were such a small part of the user base (which came across as 'are not important') and the beta forums I have taken part in, I don't think they are interested in what we have to say on here anyway. They clearly have their own strategy and are pressing ahead with it regardless of what we say!

A feature that is crucial to me is the ability to drag reminders into any desired order.  This feature exists in version 6.x but did not when version 10 was introduced.  I uninstalled version 10.   Would like to improve the probability that evernote adds this feature back in by having you add it to your list.

I have added it on to the list. I am not sure the EN staff will be paying much attention to it to be honest, I just put this together to keep track of things as they were introduced/restored or confirmed as never coming back as EN don't seem to be very forthcoming on details.

    Hi DMiddleton -

    In your list you have
Screen Capture          Ctrl + Alt + S in version 10.2 onwards

What also works is Ctrl+Alt+H  which brings up the EN Helper window for creating a Quick Note; at the bottom left of the window is a "screen" icon  whuich whn clicked brings up the screen region select cursor which creates a note containing the grabbed region.

Just thought I'd mention that alternative.

Yes I only put the Ctrl + Alt + S as this is the direct way, it is really a shortcut to that same icon you have pointed out, using it avoids the need to have to open the helper and then click an icon which are just additional steps really. This would however be super helpful if you could open the helper, enter some text into the scratchpad then perform the screen clip and it combined both into a note!

I've been searching for ages but haven't found much on this particular issue: I can't place images inline with text any more, and there is no way to change the justification of images (inline or no).

This was reported during the initial beta, and again after the launch of v10 by myself and so far no response from EN on this issue.

So when I am on the local desktop, it is consuming the most memory for sure, right now as I type this it is taking up the most memory and I am not even doing anything in it.

I attached screenshots from it while, I was moving a note, or assigning tags.

    Local Desktop 2.png

It may be worth raising this with support and sending them the same screenshots as that seems pretty high, in comparison mine is using almost no CPU resources while viewing a note.

Mine is painfully slow!!! I have tried it on a remote desktop, local machine (laptop), local desktop at home....and all 3 is below my standards. The lag is beyond noticeable. I can understand it won't be instantaneous but if I am waiting for note the go away after I moved it to a different notebook, that is an issue for me.

My next question then is why is it so different for many users? Is it the number of notes?

And since the legacy app works fast on the same computer, I would conclude that there is an issue here aside from the performance or the capability of the PC.

It is strange how it is affecting so many users in so many ways, I honestly cant answer that but I hope the EN devs are looking at it. It has to be more than PC hardware as one person posted about bad delays and they were using a pretty well spec'd machine. Maybe there is a link between content size and performance, I don't keep a large number of notes in it anymore after moving mainly to OneNote so that may be why my experience is not as bad as yours. I have seen users mention they have 50k notes etc so it would be good to get some performance comparisons from those. And maybe the size of the note content itself also plays into it.

How much RAM and CPU is being used on your machines with EN running, and have you tried monitoring it as you navigate through different notes/notebooks?

Generally speaking, are electron apps slower than native desktop apps that we had been used to before? Generic question to understand the electron apps better and whether I should just prepare myself for slow apps?!

What are the limitations to the electron apps and the advantages?

Generally yes they are slower than native, some are really good such as Microsoft's VS Code, in general they respond slower and take up more RAM on the machine.
It is still a web interface and the display rendering is slower that a native app dealing with the graphics, which is why you may notice changing from note to note is not as snappy as the legacy version etc. They can still access most things on the system with a bit of work and integrate with it pretty well but as a developer myself I much prefer native apps.

The advantage for EN is to have a shared code base so they don't have to maintain multiple platform specific versions, and apparently that will allow them to deploy new features quicker in the future.

Reading some of the feedback on the forums the performance varies widely between users with some having very poor performance and lags, while my own experience is not as bad as that it is noticeably slower that the legacy version.

    Bonjour,

Very nice job, thanks for this.  You could add import folders and SLOW as compared to current version to the list and saving view options and three minute lag after update for inclusion in search results to the list. I think those are still outstanding.

I have amended some bits, I had 'Local Notebooks' so have now included import folders, save view is there and I have added the slow performance issues too.

  15. I posted this in another thread but it just gets lost in the replies so posting this on its own so the link stays at the top.
I created a tracker for missing features and functionality as well as ideas and requests which may help as sometimes the same questions seem to get asked in multiple posts in the forum.

    https://www.evernote.com/shard/s249/sh/3fabdc13-3d55-9e1f-981b-9d4b43d74975/739ec1c7ac579089ac6d0ecdf2a8ddd1

Feel free to comment below on things that should be added to the list or if you know the answers/work arounds to any of them.

I will be updating it as solutions are found or announcements are made.
