Clipping web sites is probably used by 100% of users.

I would like to bet a lot of people use the code block function, hence why it is even there. And I don't use the Web clipper so not 100% of people do.

And I would not say changing styling and adding some minor functionality was contributing bloat, to something which is already there.

I take you point about that being the reason you argue about it but this is a part of the forum for 'feature requests', the whole point is to ask for things you would like to see in EN.

The key promises of EN is not to  make coding easy - the key promises is to find when you need it whatever you dropped in there before.

On that basis you could argue there is no need for any formatting at all in any note.

If I paste a code snippit in, EN removes the formatting from the code editor and applies its own style.. Imagine if you clipped a website and it removed all the styling and replaced it with something else! You could still find it but it wouldn't look like it did when you dropped it in there.

  3. I know others have posted about the styling on code blocks but they also really need some additional work, there are several competitors that have (in my opinion) nailed these.

I would bet a lot of people use EN for storing code snippits so, please give them an upgrade with:

    • Better styling as mentioned by other people with colours and bold type etc
    • Add the option to set the language, or have it detected and change the style accordingly
    • Add a 'Copy to clipboard' button/menu option - I cant stress this enough as at present if I use Ctrl + A to select the text it also selects other content in the note rendering it useless. Or, make it so Ctrl + A inside the code block only highlights content within the bounds.
    • Add option to show line numbers against each new line of code, maybe with a line separator between the line numbers and the actual code content.
    • Another neat addition may be to 'Save As' which would let you export the code block to a file with the relevant extension ie: code.js or code.xml etc etc.

Come on EN, as well as the new stuff you are working on let's get some updates on the existing stuff to bring it up to date too!

    How will that work?
I know Reminders have a reminderOrder field for the "behind the scenes position index to the notes"

It would work in a similar way, you would have an option in the sort options alongside sort by title, date etc for 'Custom'.

The note at the top of the notebook would be 0, the next 1, then 2 and so on - these are the behind the scenes position index.
So for each note in a list, if the user moves the position of a note the index gets updated.

If you moved (dragged) the note in position 3 to the top, that note would become 0 and the notes below would be re-numbered accordingly.

In the sort options if you chose 'Custom' and it would list the notes by the "position index". this would allow total custom sorting of notes in any way the user wants.

It may not come across very clearly in words but it quite standard stuff for developers dealing with objects in a list.
It would be fairly simple to implement with just that one additional field on the note object.

  5. There are a couple of things that I think would improve the navigation and use in general, some of these have been mentioned in other posts separately but I thought I would combine them all here into one request.

    • Structure - change stacks to allow notebooks within notebooks so you can have multiple layers. I know this goes against the original idea and has been discussed before but would add better management for people who prefer an almost folder structure. Nimbus does this really well and Notion does it with 'pages'. I could give full examples on why I would like this but it would become quite a lengthy post.
    • View & sort - allow a specific note to be 'pinned' to the top of a notebook
    • View & sort - allow manual sort option, this would negate the above but adding a behind the scenes position index to the notes and allowing the user to manually move notes into whatever order they want would be fantastic (you can do this in OneNote)
    • View & sort - allow per notebook sorting options to be saved instead of applying the current option globally.
    • View & sort - allow the above options to sync across devices

For me, this would make the use of EN so much better.

    I've gotta jump in here.

Nimbus does indeed have that roadmap, but...

Looking at that roadmap is like paying 5 bucks to see a "bearded lady" in one of those old circus tents.

You're all excited. You go in.  You see her... You get closer, and then... You realize the beard is glued on. 😞

Glad you got that off your chest - although criticizing Nimbus may have more effect if it were on their forum.
My point wasn't that I believed the Nimbus roadmap was gospel, it was just an example of how even a simple page showing what may be coming or in development would be helpful for EN users - and yes, with actual stuff they were doing and not glued on beards.

Also, EN is not much better in terms of development priorities given their recent 'new feature' of the Home Page (glorified links page), when they have still not fixed basic things or restored missing bits (align an image in a note or record and playback audio).

Happy New Year. I still can't select more than 50 notes...

which is a problem because I found that my AppleScript that creates notes from pdf's went off the rails. It create a few thousand duplicate notes that I want to delete. My current batch has 2500 duplicates where it processed the same file 2500 times. :(

There is a work around for this editing the config file to allow selecting more notes in the new version, until (or even if) they increase the limit officially.

    Hi All,

You're way ahead of the curve on this. 😅

At this time, I've removed posts that call out how to enable these features prematurely.

The reason for this is that these features are still in beta, and as they are works in progress, we don't know whether it'll have a negative impact on data or your Evernote Account.

For the time being, please refrain from posting these workaround here in the forums.

As always, let me know if you have any questions!

My bad, wont do it again!

You guys should definitely consider my post about about a roadmap though, you can see we want to know what is coming!

Mostly for the recovery of an accidentally deleted note from a synced notebook or pure backup for local notebooks (not so much an issue with V10).

I can understand the local notebook backup with it not being synced to the cloud.
So, for deleted notes - would they not have been available in the trash - or would that have been for those deleted from local notebooks too?

  10. I have seen a fair amount of users mention about exporting notes on a daily/weekly/monthly basis quoting they do this to 'manually back up' their notes. And with the new version people complaining about the options for doing this etc etc.

I am genuinely interested to know why you feel the need to back them up locally in such a way?

Is it mistrust of the service thinking you may lose them or is if a technical reason, or have you had an experience of them disappearing in the past?

    Cheers in advance.

You can not have it both ways...advising people to stop using a product- they have paid for.....bit like hiring a car - dropping it off for service then being handed back a scooter and being told to get on with it .....it has 2 wheels.......

I think his main point was that forum threads get moved off topic, while every one has the right to complain about the product if they don't like it (and I had some issues with it at first too), there are other threads dedicated to this. A lot of threads do seem to start off with a point then get hijacked by complaints not really related to the discussion point it started with.

    Thanks for the screenshots
It's interesting to see both: Set due date and Add reminder

In the pre-version10 architecture, there is no due date field; I've been using reminder date

Yes it is a good sign, interesting there is a 'Flagged' field too.
I will be impressed if they pull it all together to let you see tasks in a widget on the new home screen layout, or even a proper tasks interface as a separate screen.

It's a new program and they wanted to allow the continued use of the legacy version which occupied the old location. It wouldn't be possible - or at least not easy - to use the same program folders for two different applications.

It is actually the way Electron works, it does not use the standard 'Program Files' folder that most Windows apps use.
If you use any other Electron apps such as Notion, Nimbus Notes or VS Code you will see them installed in the same location so it was probably not a conscious choice to move the location.

If memory is key to your workflow then clearly, in the case described by the OP, Notion would be the winner.  But actually memory only really becomes an issue if the programs provide the same function.

As it happens I just checked an EN10.4.4 is currently consuming 440Mb on my PC. So much like Notion in the OP's example.

It is not just to do with workflow, the high RAM use will impact the performance of the app especially if you are using other apps at the same time.
EN is running at about 330Mb on my machine so is fine, but this is a good example of the differences across user' experience with the app performance.

Hi. Do you have the same number of notes in both apps?

Granted that would be a sensible side by side comparison but Notion does not have an offline DB so there is no real way of a like for like test anyway.
The only real thing they have in common is they are both built on Electron.

That said, Evernote consuming 2Gb of RAM is a lot for a note taking app, I can run Visual Studio on my laptop debugging a massive business application and it uses less RAM than that

I've tried it again and measured the screen with a ruler and EN takes up exacltly half of the screen. Like you, if I drag the central devider I can only reduce it a certain amount - in my case to about 40% of the screen width.

It seems EN has a minimum size on the window so it cant be resized below that in split screen mode, like Mike said it is about 40% on his, it is a bit more on mine so may be set as pixel size and be monitor dependant.
