v10 is truly awful for many of us. Every day I scream at it because it's such a slow, buggy POS. But others love it. Go figure.

After a year with Obsidian I am back with Evernote and really enjoying v10. It's running really well on Windows, iPad and iPhone and I am enjoying the interface, and the way the notes are laid out. I have 2000 or so notes and most of those I just reimported from my backed up ENEX files (made when I left Evernote) and then imported about 100 or so notes from my Obsidian time.

I have been reading this Forum and stuff on Reddit and wondering what I am missing b/c it all feels pretty positive so far ... is disaster about to befall me?? 😉

This may appear counter-intuitive.  I was forced into it, and was initially very upset. But in the end, it worked like a charm for me. Because this way, you are also in a way doing housekeeping, ie after 1 year, you will have active notes in your new note app, while outdated notes only in your old note app.

Many may not have considered this as an option.  I certainly didn't. but it worked well for me, so am highlighting it as a POSSIBLE option to think about.

Great solution. A bit off topic, but this also works for those with hundreds or thousands of unread emails who want to go to inbox zero but cannot figure out how to do it. Simply create a folder called "Archive", put ALL your emails - both read and unread - into it, and like magic you have an empty inbox. If you need to find anything old, it's still there in archive, and anything new can either be read and deleted or read and archived.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

I'm tired. Update blocking does not work, there are no answers from support, there are always unexpected and dull interference in the work. The application regularly slows down. This AI block has finished me off. I'm going to explore Obsidian.

I left Evernote for Obsidian when Evernote was sold to bendingspoons, b/c I thought it was the end after many false starts and promises.

Obsidian is good, the developers are responsibe, and the community is great at building a bunch of useful plug ins, but in the end I found it all too "technical" for me and I really never warmed to the UI.

Recently I had a quick look at Evernote again and I must say I am impressed. I like the developers and they seem very responsive. They are evolving things imho in a positive way, and things like the "/" and the AI block are easy to ignore (well at least the / is now that you can hide it).

I'm back, got a big discount on my first year of personal and enjoying being back in the fold.

So far so good for me. I have had zero problems with the new Windows versions, and while I would like the Import Folder, ability to manage Tags as previous, and miss the ability to set Styles and view options for individual views, I'm pretty happy. I still find having to see "Shared With Me" in the left panel annoying - I do not share Evernote files with anyone, and would like to turn that off.

Two weeks later, still really enjoying the new version. I have redownloaded Evernote Legacy as I just could not live without the Folder Import option. While it's slightly annoying having two versions of the app on my PC the Legacy app just lives in the background and does the single job I still need it to do (it probably doubles my required storage space, but I have lots of storage so...)

I have had no crashes, or other stability problems, and for now the missing thing I would really like is the ability to set Reminders to recurring. I use Chronofy Evernote Calendar Connector and it syncs with Outlook. This means that I can have my notes for regular meetings appear in the diary beside the recurring meeting. My work around is to reset the reminder once the meeting is over - so no biggie.

Again, just adding my two cents worth (so that's four cents now!) in support of Evernote and the app's evolution.

However, I really like the new Editor, and am especially happy with the way that Reminders are implemented, notably the functionality when setting them in individual notes. I think the merge feature is greatly improved too.

The new version feels stable and as I'm using the Android Beta the user experience feels, for the first time, consistent across these two platforms - or as consistent as they can be given the screen size difference.

My verdict is - those of us using the new release are absolutely beta testers, but I have faith in the company to improve the release and add back in the features that are missing. And the improvements in the editor and reminders outweigh any negatives for me.

    My two cents...

A certain level of income is required to allow companies to stay in business...

This point seems to elude so many people. Evernote as far as I am aware is not a charity and -- after a brief flirtation as a potential Unicorn - is trying to simply be a company that makes an excellent product that it hopes people will pay for so it can turn a profit and stay in business. I sometimes trial other note taking apps and think seriously of leaving, but in my experience none come close to the simplicity and reliability of Evernote.

I also have confidence in the new CEO and his desire to methodically improve the product in a slow and steady fashion. I want the bells and whistle of the web app in my Windows 10 environment, but I'm willing to wait until a stable version is available and the testing is over...

  8. If being able to place items in different parts of a page as you can currently do in OneNote is really important to you, then Evernote will be a disappointment. I have used both, and OneNote is essentially a large page which allows you to click anywhere and write text, place an image, audio, etc. anywhere you want. You can then resize and drag the items around the page to your hearts content (as an aside, this feature/metaphor is the very reasons I stopped using OneNote as I found it really confusing, and cumbersome).

Evernote is much more like Notepad on Windows. Straight forward and linear, although you can paste image, PDFs, Word docs, etc. but they fall inline, rather than being able to place them anywhere.

The table idea might work as a bit of a work around, but it will not replicate what you get in OneNote b/c the tables are based on rows and columns, whereas OneNote is more freeform.

As someone said above, just try it for yourself and you be the judge 🙂

I hope soon we get different colour highlighter (not just yellow), which is necessary for students. "Semantic header" too seems to be very useful for students to create the outline of a topic/subject.

Agreed re. colour highlights not just yellow, and it looks from the video like there is a new "pen" feature that suggests this is going to happen 🙂

I have oscillated constantly over the years -- stick with Evernote, go to OneNote, find something different?? I have GBs of notes in Evernote so departing is a significant decision for me. However, since the new CEO joined I am glad to see a clear focus on two things - a consistent interface across platforms (thank goodness!), and a focus on the stability of the software. Not sure if it's just me, but the Windows and Android versions I use seem much more stable in 2019 than previous years. Less (hardly any!) crashes, no lost notes, etc. etc.

This video was really enjoyable. Understated and focused on improvements...nothing flashy, just making things better.

My two cents: tags must be viewable, Share is a feature I just don't use in Evernote.
