  1. The TLDR version: I came back because I found the Obsidian interface a too techie and fiddly. I didn't trust the plug-ins would always be updated (so I removed them all except one or two) and I disliked the way that Obsidian handled images. I also prefer the way Evernote handles documents in line. Worst of all I had issues with Obsidian sync and at one point had lots of duplicate files. Also the bookmark feature never worked consistently enough for me. The long version First up, I left Evernote b/c I had had enough of waiting for any kind of new features I liked, and I also felt a need to get my 2000 or so notes that dated back to when I first used Evernote in mid-2009 into a format that was "future proof". Also, Evernote being sold to a new developer didn't fill me with confidence -- so that was the final trigger for me to jump. After a lot of research "future proof" felt like mark down and Obsidian seemed the most feature rich of the MD editors. It had a lively plug in community, and the people behind it seem to be open and communicative. So I exported all of the Evernote notebooks as ENEX, imported everything into Obsidian and grabbed a handful of plug ins and got going. Also, because I am a Windows users with two Apple devices, I paid Obsidian an annual fee for the sync option. I came back because I found the Obsidian interface a too techie and fiddly. So one day a couple of months ago I thought I'll see how Evernote is doing, downloaded it, imported a handful of files and played around with it. I liked it and I was encouraged by how much new and, to me, useful stuff was coming down the line from the new owners. I jumped on their web site and had a good look around and while they don't feel as permanent as, say, Microsoft or Google 🙂, they also don't seem like they are about to disappear overnight - but in this world who knows? I also read about the legacy version being killed off and all the negativity around that but given I wasn't going back to that version, it wasn't an issue for me. So, after a big import, a bit of faff adding back in the new Obsidian created files, I am back and after 6 weeks or so I am really enjoying it. And, touch wood, I have not had any of the performance or buggy issues that I see reported here. Fingers crossed... The final point: I subscribed to Personal for a month and just to test the waters, cancelled that after a few days to see if I could nab a "please don't go" discount. Sure enough I got a hefty discount off my first year -- somewhere around 25 or 30% from memory. I am not opposed to paying developers who make software I like and use. While I am happy with the discount, I don't have an issue paying full price for what I see as a pretty reasonable monthly figure to use Evernote.
  2. I personally didn't read it as sarcastic or negative. I read it as a good response to my post.
  3. After a year with Obsidian I am back with Evernote and really enjoying v10. It's running really well on Windows, iPad and iPhone and I am enjoying the interface, and the way the notes are laid out. I have 2000 or so notes and most of those I just reimported from my backed up ENEX files (made when I left Evernote) and then imported about 100 or so notes from my Obsidian time. I have been reading this Forum and stuff on Reddit and wondering what I am missing b/c it all feels pretty positive so far ... is disaster about to befall me?? 😉
  4. Great solution. A bit off topic, but this also works for those with hundreds or thousands of unread emails who want to go to inbox zero but cannot figure out how to do it. Simply create a folder called "Archive", put ALL your emails - both read and unread - into it, and like magic you have an empty inbox. If you need to find anything old, it's still there in archive, and anything new can either be read and deleted or read and archived. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.
  5. I left Evernote for Obsidian when Evernote was sold to bendingspoons, b/c I thought it was the end after many false starts and promises. Obsidian is good, the developers are responsibe, and the community is great at building a bunch of useful plug ins, but in the end I found it all too "technical" for me and I really never warmed to the UI. Recently I had a quick look at Evernote again and I must say I am impressed. I like the developers and they seem very responsive. They are evolving things imho in a positive way, and things like the "/" and the AI block are easy to ignore (well at least the / is now that you can hide it). I'm back, got a big discount on my first year of personal and enjoying being back in the fold.
  6. I have been searching on how to do this as I have recently moved from Professional to Personal as I only use Evernote myself. It's a slightly annoying waste of UI real estate so I too would like to remove the Assigned label from my copy of Evernote. Is there any way to do this ??
  7. Maybe I am missing something, but I would like to be able to put a Link in a Task that links to another note in Evernote. I cannot work out how to do this as any link generated to a note (app or web) b/c Text when I convert it to a task. Am I doing something wrong or is this impossible?
  8. Two weeks later, still really enjoying the new version. I have redownloaded Evernote Legacy as I just could not live without the Folder Import option. While it's slightly annoying having two versions of the app on my PC the Legacy app just lives in the background and does the single job I still need it to do (it probably doubles my required storage space, but I have lots of storage so...) I have had no crashes, or other stability problems, and for now the missing thing I would really like is the ability to set Reminders to recurring. I use Chronofy Evernote Calendar Connector and it syncs with Outlook. This means that I can have my notes for regular meetings appear in the diary beside the recurring meeting. My work around is to reset the reminder once the meeting is over - so no biggie. Again, just adding my two cents worth (so that's four cents now!) in support of Evernote and the app's evolution.
  9. So far so good for me. I have had zero problems with the new Windows versions, and while I would like the Import Folder, ability to manage Tags as previous, and miss the ability to set Styles and view options for individual views, I'm pretty happy. I still find having to see "Shared With Me" in the left panel annoying - I do not share Evernote files with anyone, and would like to turn that off. However, I really like the new Editor, and am especially happy with the way that Reminders are implemented, notably the functionality when setting them in individual notes. I think the merge feature is greatly improved too. The new version feels stable and as I'm using the Android Beta the user experience feels, for the first time, consistent across these two platforms - or as consistent as they can be given the screen size difference. My verdict is - those of us using the new release are absolutely beta testers, but I have faith in the company to improve the release and add back in the features that are missing. And the improvements in the editor and reminders outweigh any negatives for me. My two cents...
  10. Hi there It was archived on the Wayback Machine. You can find it here https://web.archive.org/web/20120503195712/http://dangoldesq.com When you go to this page there is a link to the article under the Most Popular blog posts section. Click on that and you will get the full article. I have also saved the article as a PDF below if that's easier. Evernote Article.pdf
  11. Oh, and I forgot to mention most people at my small company use Evernote daily.
  12. This point seems to elude so many people. Evernote as far as I am aware is not a charity and -- after a brief flirtation as a potential Unicorn - is trying to simply be a company that makes an excellent product that it hopes people will pay for so it can turn a profit and stay in business. I sometimes trial other note taking apps and think seriously of leaving, but in my experience none come close to the simplicity and reliability of Evernote. I also have confidence in the new CEO and his desire to methodically improve the product in a slow and steady fashion. I want the bells and whistle of the web app in my Windows 10 environment, but I'm willing to wait until a stable version is available and the testing is over...
  13. If being able to place items in different parts of a page as you can currently do in OneNote is really important to you, then Evernote will be a disappointment. I have used both, and OneNote is essentially a large page which allows you to click anywhere and write text, place an image, audio, etc. anywhere you want. You can then resize and drag the items around the page to your hearts content (as an aside, this feature/metaphor is the very reasons I stopped using OneNote as I found it really confusing, and cumbersome). Evernote is much more like Notepad on Windows. Straight forward and linear, although you can paste image, PDFs, Word docs, etc. but they fall inline, rather than being able to place them anywhere. The table idea might work as a bit of a work around, but it will not replicate what you get in OneNote b/c the tables are based on rows and columns, whereas OneNote is more freeform. As someone said above, just try it for yourself and you be the judge 🙂
  14. Did anyone ever find the solution to this? I still have notes marked "Shared Via Work Chat" that I cannot delete even though I have deleted all my work chats.
  15. I'm hopeful the little icon next to the U for underline (to the right) is something that will offer additional colours beyond Evernote yellow! But as I say, to me it just suggested this little icon might be in. Guess we will have to wait and see.
  16. Agreed re. colour highlights not just yellow, and it looks from the video like there is a new "pen" feature that suggests this is going to happen 🙂 I have oscillated constantly over the years -- stick with Evernote, go to OneNote, find something different?? I have GBs of notes in Evernote so departing is a significant decision for me. However, since the new CEO joined I am glad to see a clear focus on two things - a consistent interface across platforms (thank goodness!), and a focus on the stability of the software. Not sure if it's just me, but the Windows and Android versions I use seem much more stable in 2019 than previous years. Less (hardly any!) crashes, no lost notes, etc. etc. This video was really enjoyable. Understated and focused on improvements...nothing flashy, just making things better. My two cents: tags must be viewable, Share is a feature I just don't use in Evernote.
