(Archived) Missing notes?

ndw

Idea

Hi folks,

I first noticed this as an API issue, but it seems to be a Mac client issue instead. When I look at my notes using the Evernote Mac client, my "000 Input Queue" notebook contains 1 note. I happened to be working on my backup tool and discovered that the API reported 3 notes.

Sure enough, if I look at my notes on the web, that notebook contains 3 notes.

Why is the Mac client out of sync?

Nothing that stands out to me. I moved some things around on the web client and the Mac client and resynced a few times.

This error means that your Mac client isn't able to talk to our servers at all: "A server with the specified hostname could not be found."

Can you log on to your account on the web from that computer using Safari (not Firefox, etc.) without seeing any errors or warnings?

If not, then there may be a networking misconfiguration on your system.

I've seen occasional HTTP and DNS errors when running the API as well. Dropped packets are a fact of life on the net, could it really be that the Mac client just assumes that all connections succeed and isn't prepared to retry in the event of sporadic network glitches?

The client is connecting over HTTP, which uses TCP, which should handle dropped packets at the transport layer. This looks more like a complete network outage. The client will try to sync again on the normal schedule.

You can make it try to sync more frequently (e.g. every 5 minutes) using: Preferences > Sync
