Can someone tell me if I can import files (recipes) word and pdf files stored in my computer,

You can attach files to notes - that's one of the main talents of the application.  If you're using Windows you can set up a folder to make this easier - Evernote > Tools > Import Folders - drag and drop your files into the folder,  and they;ll be added to your Evernote account.
