User forum, your fellow users answer questions on their leisure time so sometimes it takes a while.

My setting look like this:

http://note.io/1qM5FJM

And the elephant shows up on startup without Evernote opening.

Make sure you don't have the Evernote app also set to open at login. Check

System prefs:users and groups:login items. Make sure Evernote isn't in there.

Or

Right click Evernote's dock icon:options:open at login. Make sure this is unchecked

Navigate to

system preferences>Users and Groups>Login Items

Does "Evernote Helper" appear in that list? If so, is the box under "Hidden" checked or un-checked? Evernote Helper should appear in that list with the box unchecked.

Not sure why this is causing you so much grief, perhaps a gremlin in your preferences files or something!
