Private vs Public

I got a message from a friend that said "i saw you on evernote, i'm using that too" .... i tried seeing if maybe my notes were public vs private but couldn't see that they had settings.

I know if you share a note on social media that it could be picked up on Google but I haven't done that.

How did they find out I was on Evernote? 

Are my notes visible to the public? If so, how do I change this?

Your notes are not available publicly unless you intentionally share them. I would ask your friend to show you how they "saw" you on Evernote. Did you possibly comment on an Evernote blog post?
